Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) launched India’s first Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD) on Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) project on January 03. The 22-km-long MTHL project will connect Sewri on Mumbai side to Chirle on Navi Mumbai side. This project will save the travel time for the commuters. It will connect South Mumbai with Navi Mumbai and reduce the travel time of 2-2.5 hours to 20-25 minutes, informed Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde. “India's longest sea link project, MTHL, is expected to be completed by 2023 end. These OSDs fabricated in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and Myanmar, are being assembled in Mumbai. It'll provide a larger space (between 2 pillars) for ship movement,” said MMRDA Commissioner SVR Srinivas.
