The Bombay High Court on Thursday upheld the reservation for Martha community. It also upheld the report filed by the State Backward Classes Commission. The court did not accept the quantum of 16 percent, saying it should be reduced to 12 or 13 percent as recommended by the State Backward Classes Commission. "“The state possesses legislative competence to enact the Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) Act of 2018 in Maharashtra which provided for reservation to the Maratha community as SEBC," the court said.
