Know why 'Nagar Vadhu' dance amidst blazing pyre of crematorium in Varanasi

It is a strange centuries-old tradition of Varanasi where 'Nagar Vadhu' danced throughout the night amidst blazing pyres at Manikarnika Ghat, the crematorium of Kashi. Here, Four hundred years ago, Raja Man Singh invited artists from Kashi to the court of Baba Mashan Nath. When the artists refused to come due to the crematorium, then these Nagar Vadhu from the lowest strata of the society went ahead and discharged this tradition and are still following it today.
