A new report by the Central Pollution Control Board says that following the immersion of idols in river Yamuna, the river was left not even fit to bath, with both dissolved oxygen (DO) and biological oxygen demand (BOD) levels shooting well past the normal limits. Foaming was also visible this year after both Durga Puja and Ganesh Chaturthi immersions and the concentration of heavy metals increased considerably due to the paint and items used in decorating idols, the report states.
