Moral policing: IIT Madras student shamed for hugging friend on campus

Two students, a male and a female, at the IIT Madras were at the receiving end of harassment, moral policing from a staff member just for hugging each other on campus. A staff member from the Applied Mechanics department, Uday Kumar, was covertly taking pictures and videos of the two students calling their behaviour immoral. The girls’ complaint to the higher authorities of the institution but they constantly ignored. It was when other students joined in, rallied into confiscating the phone of the staff member and deleted the pictures and videos, a complaint was registered at the police station.
