The debut season of Bigg Boss Telugu hosted by Jr NTR was launched amidst demands that the actor shouldn’t host a show that depicts content against Telugu sensibilities and Indian culture at large. And Mumaith Khan is easily the most controversial contestant of the season. The actress often picked up fights with co-inmates and she was even evicted from the house for a day as she was questioned by the Special Investigation Team of Telangana in connection with a drug racket in Hyderabad.

Sampoornesh Babu's controversial exit

Sampoornesh Babu’s controversial exit from the Bigg Boss house towards the end of the second week of the season shed light on the psychological pressure in the house besides triggering a debate whether it was pre-scripted or genuine. The actor pleaded with Bigg Boss to relieve him as he couldn’t adjust to the conditions in the house as he came from a ‘village backdrop’. While it is a clear case of violation of the show’s rules, he succeeded in stepping out of the house. According to rumour mills, he was levied a penalty of Rs 20 lakhs for the violation.

Sanjanna Anne sparks debate on ‘Celebrity-Commoner’ divide

Controversies in the second season flagged off with Sanjanna Anne, one of the three commoner contestants.

She was sent to jail within a few hours of her entry into the house. Sanjana alleged that she was jailed because of the 'Commoner-Celebrity' divide in the house. She was the first contestant to be evicted from the house too. Sanjana continued to argue that the ‘Commoner-Celebrity’ divide was evident in the house even after her eviction.

Notably, doors were shut for commoners after season 2.

Kaushal Manda and his controversial 'Kaushal Army'

Bigg Boss Telugu season 2 winner Kaushal Manda shot to fame overnight in a task where co-contestant Kireeti Damaraju squeezed lemon into the former’s eyes as a part of a task. This resulted in the subsequent eviction of Kireeti and the rise of Kaushal as the new favorite of the Bigg Boss fandom. This controversial task also led to the birth of 'Kaushal Army', an online fan community which eventually grew into an organization until it was recently shut down following allegations of fraud against Kaushal.

Host Nani gets trolled

Host Nani faced allegations of being biased towards a few housemates in the show. He was massively trolled for his style of hosting that favoured a few like Kaushal and grilled the others. Twitterrati slammed Nani as the hashtag #NaniUnfitForBB2Host trended on the social networking platform for almost a day. Nani further took to his Twitter to clarify on the same.

The controversial “Bigger Boss”

Controversial human rights activist Babu Gogineni earned the tag of "Bigger Boss" in the house with his rational thinking and rebellious attitude. Besides questioning Bigg Boss during his stay in the BB house, Babu also slammed the organisers of season 3 as well. Without naming the ex-contestant, Babu Gogineni complained that the contestant is leaking information about participants of the latest season, their eviction, and the organizers are keeping mum about the incident.

He took to his social networking handle to condemn the leakage of inside information by the ex-contestant. In his recent post, Babu Gogineni slammed the organizers for not taking any action against those who are leaking information about the entries and eviction of the show. He further described it as ‘incompetence’ of the organizers to allow even the remotest possibility of leaking information in the first place. He took a dig at the ex-contestant for leaking information on his online platforms using ‘deceptive language’ in the name of prediction. Terming it as ‘a stupid and spoil sport’s act’, Babu Gogineni called for a strict against such offences. In the post, he also found fault with the location of the Bigg Boss house, which is situated in the heart of the city.

Casting couch allegations against Bigg Boss organisers

Ahead of season 3 of the TV series, actress Gayatri Gupta and a Hyderabad-based journalist Swetha Reddy also filed a case against four of Bigg Boss Telugu 3's organisers alleging them of indulging in casting couch and fat-shaming her. This sparked a furore and debate over casting couch in Telugu entertainment industry and the safety of women.

OU Students protesting outside Nagarjuna’s house

Ahead of season 3's launch, nearly eight students from the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) staged a protest outside the house of actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, who made a debut as a TV host with the season.

The students reportedly claimed that host Nagarjuna has been silent over the issue even after several allegations of sexual harassment were made by women. The students claimed that Nagarjuna belonging to one of the influential and popular families in Tollywood has the responsibility to comment on the issue and further step down.

Notably, Nagarjuna went on to host the season which eventually emerged as one of the most successful seasons of the TV series in Telugu.

Mehaboob Dilse faces allegations of scam

Bigg Boss Telugu 4 fame Mehaboob Dilse faced severe backlash on social media after the conclusion of the show. A section of netizens accused him of committing a ‘scam’ by dropping hints to Sohel about his position in the finale.

Bigg Boss Telugu season 4 grand finale took an unexpected turn after Sohel agreed to accept Rs. 25 lacs prize money and quit the show.

A video wherein Mehaboob can be spotted showing number three when he visits the BB house along with Divi a day before the finale is doing the rounds on social media.

Mehaboob, on the other hand, was given Rs. 10 lacs by chief guest Chiranjeevi. The Telugu superstar was moved by Mehaboob and Sohel’s concern for orphans and their donation for them. Mehaboob is also expected to take part in Bigg Boss Non-Stop.

Shanmukh-Siri's controversial 'friendship' in season 5

Shanmukh and Siri's friendship in Bigg Boss Telugu 5 was one of the most controversial topics of the season. Shanmukh was in a relationship with Deepthi Sunaina while Siri was engaged to actor Srihan before stepping into the BB house. However, Shanmukh and Siri's close proximity in the house didn't go well with their respective partners and fans as well.

Shanmukh and Siri's 'friendship' and 'friendship hugs' were trolled on several occasions. The drama was taken a notch higher when Siri indulged in self-harm after a fight with Shanmukh. She was schooled by host Nagarjuna as well. Siri's mother expressed her disappointment during her visit to the BB house and Srihan reminded her about their engagement but Shanmukh-Siri's equation grew stronger. Shanmukh and Deepthi Sunaina officially announced their break up on January 1 this year while Siri and Srihan weren't spotted together ever since Bigg Boss Telugu 5 ended.
