Well-known Marathi actor Bhalchandra Kadam, popularly known as Bhau, is in Nagpur for his Marathi play 'Shantecha Karta Chalu Aahe'. When we caught up with him, Bhau who is simultaneously working in films, theatre and television, shared, “Theatre is a very challenging medium and I thoroughly enjoy doing plays. There is no second chance; you have to perform without retakes and you get an instant reaction from the live audience.”
The actor also expressed his wish to visit Nagpur jungles.
“I have only visited Nagpur for my plays. I don’t know anyone personally here. However, I have heard about the popular jungles around the city and I will make a special plan to visit one of these jungles soon enough,” he said.
Along with being an integral part of a popular comedy show on television, Bhau has also done films like Timepass and Timepass 2, Jau Dya Na Balasaheb and Half Ticket. When asked why is it that despite winning National Awards and attracting Bollywood A-listers, many of the Marathi films are not able to attract audience, he replied, “Firstly, piracy is the biggest threat to Marathi films. Efforts should be made to stop it. The reason a film like Sairat could draw large audience was due to its fabulous music. It was later that cinegoers liked its story and other elements. Having said this, a film with a low budget, is usually not promoted well. So, good promotional strategy is also the need of the hour.”
