Those days Mythology used to be non-grade

In those days, Mythology used to be a non-grade kind of content. People in the industry wouldn't validate mythological films and when we talk about serials, there were no expectations. A lot of people also asked me why I wanted to do Mythology as I was doing well with commercial films and I was busy with them.

Sagar sahab took my audition and outrightly rejected me. I was told to do any other role in the show. I told them, "I didn't want to do any role, I wanted to play Ram and experience it. If I am not worthy of it then it's ok." They selected someone else and a few months passed. One day Sagar sahab called me and shared that the selection committee said that I was the best choice and that is how I got the show.

Ramayan's response was good and bad

Ramayan's response was good and bad. I received a lot of respect and love but I got completely removed from commercial films. The makers and producers told me that they saw me in Ram's avatar and they can't see me in any character. For an actor, this is not good.

I started doing grey shades in TV

The negative effect of Ramayan stayed with me for years as I didn't know what to do. I didn't get films and TV was growing so I started doing grey shades to break that image. Looking at myself in those roles I started feeling that I wasn't doing something good.
