Throwback: When Ashneer Grover’s wife Madhuri made him ‘unfollow’ Mouni Roy over a revealing picture, how she had no intentions of dating him and more

In a throwback to their early days of dating, Madhuri Grover shared how she made Ashneer unfollow Mouni Roy after he liked one of her beachwear pictures on social media. The couple had made several shocking revelations in an old interview with celeb couple Amrita Rao and RJ Anmol. Here’s a look:-

Ashneer recalled how he was once asked to unfollow Mouni Roy. Recalling how scared he was of Madhuri, Ashneer shared, “One day, I liked a bikini photo of Mouni Roy. I followed very few people on social media, hardly around 60. She posted a bikini photo, and I liked it.” Madhuri interrupted, saying, “Kya aisi photo like karna banta hai? Like karna is not a problem. But she was in a bikini.” Ashneer added, “I noticed Madhuri was angry.”

Ashneer revealed, “Along with Mouni Roy, 15-20 other accounts were also unfollowed. Sonam Bajwa, Disha Patani—everyone got unfollowed.” Madhuri responded, “I didn’t tell him to unfollow. I mean, imagine—that means he has no self-control. You had to unfollow because if you see them, you’ll end up liking their posts?”

Ashneer and Madhuri first met at a career institute, where he persistently pursued her for a relationship. Madhuri, who came from a small town, was initially cautious about Delhi guys. She shared, “I never considered dating him. Firstly, being from a small town, it would have been a big issue if I was seen with someone, and secondly, I had no intention of dating him. But Ashneer was very persistent.”

Madhuri recalled the unforgettable incident, saying, “I was working at Satya Paul’s, and my father suddenly stormed into my office. Satya Paul, who was an elderly man at the time, gave me a disapproving look, as if I had done something terribly wrong. My dad came in, took me home, and confronted me. He had always given us the freedom to go anywhere, but we were expected to keep him informed. His ego was hurt because I hadn’t told him about Ashneer. I had never lied to him before.”

After they were caught, Madhuri’s father made her call Ashneer. Recalling the incident, Ashneer shared, “He gave me an earful and said, ‘Padhai karne aaye ho, aap toh IIT ke ho.’ I listened to everything he said quietly without arguing.”

Ashneer recalled, “When I got the job, I was grilled about my salary package. They thought I was claiming a 20-lakh package but might actually be earning only 8 lakhs. However, by that time, our parents had already met.”

Madhuri shared, “Back then, there was no concept of waiting. Once Ashneer got the job and his salary package was discussed, my parents made their decision, and we had a roka ceremony. However, Ashneer fell ill just before the ceremony and had a high fever of 102. My parents even held a puja for his well-being. But I know, even now, Ashneer still gets high fevers.” Ashneer added, “For no reason, out of the blue, I suddenly got a high fever.”

Madhuri had a specific look in mind for her wedding, and she found the perfect outfit when she went shopping in Delhi. “I got my wedding outfit just the way I had imagined,” she said. Ashneer, on the other hand, wore a simple dhoti and kurta for their wedding, which took place on a humid day. “Rishtedaaro ne itni gaali di because Punjabi weddings are usually in the winter, and it was so humid and raining on our wedding day,” Ashneer joked. The couple had always wanted a simple wedding, rather than a grand celebration.

“I come from a business-class family, while Ashneer came from a service-class background. Even today, IIT and IIM students are highly valued, and I knew Ashneer had the potential to make a name for himself. Wo fod hi denge, I was confident our future would be secure,” Madhuri shared. “But despite his IIT background, I wasn’t influenced by his educational credentials—it didn’t matter to me.”
