Theatre gave me my voice: Garvit Ahuja
Actor Garvit Ahuja, known for his TV roles, credits theatre for shaping his acting career.
Actor Garvit Ahuja, known for his roles in television shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 and Mangal Lakshmi, credits theatre as the foundation that shaped him into the performer he is today. “I have always had an itch for storytelling, and theatre became my most preferred medium once I began,” Garvit shares.Opening up about his early years, he reveals that he was far from the confident actor audiences see today. “I was a very shy kid—unnoticed and underconfident. Anything I started, like dance or music, I would leave halfway. Theatre was the only thing I stayed consistent with. I started as a backstage member for a school play. Watching rehearsals every day drew me in. There was something magical about the process.”By the age of 14, Garvit was performing street plays—first as part of the chorus and eventually in more prominent roles. “Theatre became an outlet for me, a way to express myself as a child who struggled with emotions and communication. I remember being on stage during the first show, completely blank for about 15 seconds. I couldn’t recall my lines consciously, but somehow everything just flowed.
I said everything I was supposed to, felt everything—it was beyond me. That moment felt magical, almost divine.”It was then that he made a life-altering decision. “Standing there on stage, I knew this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”Today, Garvit continues to chase that same magic—both on stage and in front of the camera. “The moment between ‘action’ and ‘cut’ is magical in its own way—sometimes even more. I want to play every kind of role that challenges me. Roles that make me uncomfortable, where I feel stuck and have to dig deeper to find solutions.”Summing up his current mindset, he says, “I’m very hungry right now. I want to explore every opportunity, discover new sides of myself, showcase my versatility, and keep learning and growing as an actor.”
