The OG VJs of the 90’s Malaika Arora, Nikhil Chinapa, Shenaz Tresury and others reunite; here’s how they look now

From Malaika Arora and Nikhil Chinapa to Cyrus Sahukar, Mini Mathur, and Shenaz Treasury, the original VJs of the '90s have recently reunited, bringing back a wave of nostalgia. These iconic faces, who defined an era of Indian television with their charisma and style, have come together to reminisce about their golden days. Their reunion highlights how they look now and celebrates their enduring charm and influence on the entertainment industry.

Mini Mathur

Mini Mathur's journey in the entertainment industry began with hosting several game and quiz shows, as well as a travel show, which eventually led her to Mumbai. She became a VJ after winning a contest where she impersonated Simi Garewal interviewing Mamta Kulkarni. During her four years at MTV, Mini hosted concerts by international artists, interviewed film and pop stars, appeared on youth campuses, gave advice on love, and played classic tracks. She also presented "Bombay Blush," a culture show on India that aired in the UK, hosting two seasons of the show on BBC2.

The reunion party

Mini wrote, “MTV was a special time in all our lives. It’s where we found our voices, vices & vibe .. We were all different and yet spoke to an entire generation together. We loved what we did, took pride in our shows..and each others. We partied hard, worked harder.”

4/9

Malaika Arora

Malaika was chosen as a VJ for MTV India when the channel began its operations. She worked as an interviewer and hosted shows such as Club MTV. Later, she co-hosted Love Line and Style Check alongside Cyrus Broacha. Mini wrote, “From chilling with students to chatting with international rockstars… from playing classics to film music.. from path breaking shows on style, fashion to crazy spoofs.. from beaming live at the VMAs to hosting the worlds longest dance party.. we did it all.”

Nikhil Chinapa

He has been associated with the channel since the late 1990s, appearing in numerous television shows including Roadies and Splitsvilla. Talking more about the reunion, Mini wrote, “ It was a time when our producers backed their talent, where we stood by our beliefs and championed each other, where creativity was paramount. Almost 25 years later, we are still bound by our experiences and respect for each others’ achievements... the unbelievable stories & spunk of the people that led us at MTV.”

Cyrus Sahukar

Cyrus' journey began with winning the VJ Hunt alongside Mini Mathur and Asif Seth. He hosted Chill Out in 1999 and became the face of Fully Faltoo in 2000. Cyrus portrayed various bizarre personas in shows like Piddhu The Great, based on cricketer-commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu, and two seasons of Rendezvous with Semi Girebaal, a parody of Rendezvous with Simi Garewal that achieved higher TRPs than the original. He also hosted Roadies season 1 in 2003. In 2004, he teamed up with fellow VJ Cyrus Broacha for the show 123, which later evolved into Cy vs Cy.

Shenaz Treasury

The channel hired her to work as a VJ on the Most Wanted program. She served as a host for several travel shows and is now an avid travel vlogger. She has also acted in several movies.
