Sumit Bhardwaj: As a kid, my parents used to put gifts next to me, saying Santa had given us these gifts
Actor Sumit Bhardwaj cherishes Christmas for its deep childhood roots, remembering Santa Claus and school celebrations.
Actor Sumit Bhardwaj, last seen as Samar Khanna in Sasural Simar Ka 2, shares that Christmas has always been deeply rooted in childhood memories and values for him. “Christmas is Santa Claus for me,” he says, recalling his early years. “As a kid, my parents used to put gifts next to me and tell me that Santa had come and given us these gifts. It was always special.” Having studied in a Catholic school, the festival became a big part of his growing-up years. “We always celebrated Christmas with love and happiness. More than any festival, we waited for Christmas because of school parties and beautiful Christmas carols.” As he grew older, his understanding of the festival evolved. “Initially, it was all about gifts, good food, and people around me being nice and lovable,” he says. “But now, when I’ve grown up, I understand why we celebrate Christmas. It’s not just Jesus’ birth, it’s also about his sacrifices for the world and for humanity.” Currently in Delhi with his family, Bhardwaj says the city has its own festive charm. “Delhi vibes during Christmas are all about love,” he shares. “Firstly, it’s winter here, and most restaurants have Christmas trees with full décor. I really love the last week of December, starting from Christmas till New Year.” Known for his work in shows like Shastri Sisters, Silsila Pyaar Ka, Beyhadh, Ayushman Bhava, Qayamat Ki Raat, and Nazar, Bhardwaj says Christmas, today, is about reflection, warmth, and togetherness more than anything else.
