In a world where being constantly surrounded by people is often associated with happiness, actor Sumbul Touqeer believes there is immense value in spending time with oneself. Known for her performances in Imlie, Kavya – Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon, and Itni Si Khushi, Sumbul says solitude is often misunderstood.“I feel being alone is often misunderstood. People think it means you are lonely, but for me, it feels like freedom,” she shares. “It’s a space where you can simply be yourself without any pressure.”The actress sees the growing trend of people embracing solo experiences as a healthy shift. “I think people are slowly choosing themselves, and that’s very important,” she says. “You don’t always need company to enjoy life. Sometimes, your own presence is enough.”Sumbul admits that she has increasingly found comfort in her own company. “There are moments when I choose to be alone, whether it’s sitting quietly or going for a drive. Those small moments help me connect with myself,” she explains. “You understand your thoughts much better when there is no noise around.”While she feels society is becoming more accepting of the idea, she believes some judgments still exist. “People often question why someone is alone, but that mindset is slowly changing,” she says. For Sumbul, solitude is closely linked to personal growth. “When you are alone, you face yourself completely. It can be uncomfortable, but it teaches you a lot,” she shares. “Growth doesn’t always happen in a crowd; sometimes it happens in silence.”With a demanding work schedule and constant interactions, the actress says she now values personal space more than ever. “Alone time helps me recharge and keeps me balanced,” she says, before concluding, “Being comfortable in your own company is a different kind of confidence. It means you don’t need to prove anything to anyone.”
