Shalini Kapoor: I enjoy bringing Bappa home and this is a ritual we’ve been celebrating over the years now
Actor Shalini Kapoor Sagar, last seen in the television show Iss Ishq Ka Rabb Rakha, continues to hold on to traditions that keep her connected with faith and family. Known for her roles in Qubool Hai, Swaragini and Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum, the actor has been hosting Ganpati at her home for years.
“I enjoy bringing Bappa home and this is a ritual we’ve been celebrating over the years now. My faith and devotion has increased with time. Though Bappa comes and celebrations take place once in a year, his blessings and presence are felt every day. I’m blessed to share this emotional and strong bond with the almighty,” she says.
The festivities, she adds, are also about reconnecting with people close to her. “Apart from Bappa, what I enjoy is the reunion — meeting my friends and co-actors from my old shows, directors and family friends. It’s a time that brings us together, where we laugh, talk, share memories and celebrate the festival,” says Kapoor.
This year’s celebration was particularly memorable for her as she took on the role of the host in a more hands-on way. “Trust me, about 160 people visited in three days. We enjoyed this year’s celebration. It was overwhelming. I was the official chef or you can call me the chaat waala bhaiya (smiles). I made Delhi-style chaat and fruit custard for everyone. People loved it and kept praising me. I enjoyed cooking and also took special care of Bappa, serving him different cuisines, including Bengali dishes. It was magical,” she recalls.
Kapoor, who has been on a break from television, is now looking ahead. “I’m in talks and hopefully things fall in place,” she concludes.
