Seema Kapoor: Networking is the need of the hour in the industry and that’s something I’m not good at
Seema Kapoor, who is known for her roles in iconic shows such as Kurukshetra, Virasat, Silsila, Hasratein, and Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai, and was last seen in Udaariyaan, acknowledges the industry’s shift towards the importance of networking and building strong connections. She says, “Networking and building relationships are definitely the need of the hour. I have realised these often translate into work. However, I’m not good at it, which I feel is a drawback for me.”
Despite not being fully attuned to the industry’s current demands, the seasoned actress, who comes from a film background, learnt the ropes of showbiz early on and fine-tuned her acting chops. “The more experience I gained, the more I polished my skills and professionalism. I’m highly self-critical, which keeps me grounded and always progressing. I’m also quite observant and a deep thinker. Above all, life is the biggest teacher, and there is always something to learn to add to your skill sets. I have strong instincts, and I prefer to rely on them rather than any specific technique,” she says.
She further shares that she makes an effort to adapt to the current trends in the industry and incorporate them into her approach. “However, I have my own set of principles and prefer to blend them with new trends, allowing me to move forward smoothly,” she states.
Seema also stresses that the pressure in the industry comes from various factors, but it’s the honesty and dedication to one’s craft that ensures longevity. “The best approach is to trust yourself, stay dedicated, and not get distracted; that way you can never go wrong,” she concludes.
She also points out that being a public figure comes with many restrictions and responsibilities. “I tread cautiously since I don’t like making mistakes. I believe in self-reflection and correction, but when it comes to biased judgments, I don’t pay attention. I know I can’t please everyone, and maintaining my own sanity is my top priority,” she concludes.
