Roadies 19: Contestant Manpreet Kaur recalls the horrifying incident of getting kidnapped, being stabbed several times with a screwdriver and left to die

Manpreet Kaur, a Bhangra instructor from Punjab, has been given many awards for her bravery and courage, when she survived an almost-fatal serial killer attack. Being a fighter, she made sure to get the culprit caught. Manpreet has been living in Chandigarh for past 3 years. She teaches bhangra in gyms and in the audition round she said, “I come from a place, where even a boy can’t think of coming to a place like this.” Though Manpreet got evicted in a major voteout post first task, here’s a look at the horrifying incident she went through in real life and how she fought back.

In 2013, I got kidnapped. There was a serial killer, who had committed 2 murders already. I was the third person. He disguised himself as an auto rickshaw driver. I was staying at an Inspector’s place. He thought I am his daughter. I was staying there as a paying guest. He kidnapped me.

It was 5 am in the morning and was raining heavily. I felt a screwdriver on my skull. He grabbed my hair and pulled me down. He drilled a screwdriver through my waist. My lungs got punctured. The right side got damaged. He hit me on the left side too. I got stabbed by the screwdriver at so many places, there are also marks on my shoulder. There were around 15 stabbings, which ripped through my body. There were 40-15 stabs 1-3 inches deep.

He was hitting me. I was lying on the ground and one of his knees was in between my legs. I was wearing pencil heel and I stabbed him in the stomach with my heel. He also got injured and I held his neck. He threatened to destroy my eyes and voice. He kept hitting me constantly and when he thought I am almost dead, he left me there and fled.

2-3 hours had passed and it was morning. There were passersby, who didn’t come forward to help. Some bikers went by saying, “Looks like she got drunk at night and a truck ran over her.” I could hear everything but couldn’t speak. My vocal chord was damaged badly.

I felt a strength from inside that what happened to me, I won’t let it happen to anyone else. I wanted to catch that criminal and not die. I started dragging myself for 1-2 km and nobody came forward to help. There was a family and their kid was playing. The kids went and told their parents that they had heard screams in the morning and there is a girl outside. They realised those screams were mine.

They took me to the hospital. The doctor fled from the hospital saying, “She is about to die. And it is a police case so don’t keep her here.” Nobody treated me. Police came and an ambulance arrived and I got admitted to another hospital. They saw me and said, “Either she will die or be in a comatose state.” My parents were told to meet me for one last time. When I was taking into the OT, I just smiled at my mom. I got so much strength inside to stay alive to get that criminal caught.

I got a sketch made and the next day, three guys were caught according to that sketch. They almost looked alike. I told the cops, that the guy who did this to me, is also injured. I told them he would have injuries in his stomach and neck. One of the guys got caught. I fought the case and in December 2015, I won and he got life imprisonment. I got district bravery award as cops were trying to nab him since a long time and through my sketch he got identified.
