Megha Sharma: People assume, ‘She’s an actor, and must be making a fortune’
Megha Sharma, who has been part of shows such as Pandya Store, Mahakali -- Anth Hi Aarambh Hai, and Baal Krishna, emphasises that the acting profession isn’t as glamorous as outsiders perceive. Highlighting a common misconception that all actors are handsomely paid and lead luxurious lives, she says, “Many, including relatives, family, and friends, often assume that we’re loaded with money or earning a lot. They tend to think, ‘Oh, she’s an actor, she must be making a fortune’. However, they don’t realise the amount of effort we put into ourselves and our careers, which also requires financial investment. So, to manage all of this, we need to earn double or even triple the amount of what we’re trying to save because a significant portion of our earnings goes into our well-being, which these people often overlook.”
An artiste’s journey is filled with highs and lows, and no actor is exempt from this cycle. While a no-work phase can be daunting, Megha recommends saving for rainy days to navigate with fewer challenges. She says, “There has to be a balance between spending and saving. I believe in enjoying the present while also saving for the future. That’s how I divide my salary.”
Megha was recently in the news for her decision to quit the ongoing show Pandya Store. The actress, who joined the family drama in June last year, was frustrated with the lack of screen time. In a previous interview, she told us, “Unfortunately, my character was not growing. I barely had any screen time or substance. The production team asked me to wait for a couple of months due to the World Cup. However, the wait was extended by four months without any improvement. During this time, I had to turn down a couple of opportunities. In January, I was informed I was free to make a decision. The decision to quit the show has been amicable. The character’s graph wasn’t improving. There was an ample opportunity for performance and improvisation. So, it was unfortunate that the character didn’t have the chance to flourish.”
