Krip Kapur Suri: Simran and I are unfazed by rumours of trouble in our marriage; we are going strong
Krrip Kapur Suri has had to fight many battles in his personal and professional lives — losing his father on the day of his marriage, waiting endlessly for projects to materialise, being replaced on a TV show just as he reaches the set... the actor has seen it all. But what’s important is, he has bounced back, stronger, after every low.
Krrip will soon be seen in a full-fledged role in the supernatural thriller Vish, after 'Jeet Gayi Toh Piyaa Morre', which ended in 2018. He had quit the latter, as he didn’t want to play father to a 25-year-old. “Every character has a journey and certain decisions are taken in the interest of the show. However, as an artiste, if I am not comfortable playing father to a 25-year-old, I have every right to leave the show, ” he says.
After playing an intense hero in his last show, Krrip is turning negative with Vish, in which he plays a witch hunter. He shares, “I have played negative characters in six out of nine shows that I have been part of. In fact, I started my career as an antagonist. So, I have no qualms about it. Also, I don’t think about the shade of the character, what matters is the scope it offers me to perform. I wasn’t doing anything great for long, nor was I considered for good shows. Now that I am back, I want to do good work.”
It also took some time for Krrip to come to terms with the fact that he was asked to return home just when he was about to reach the set of Udann. He was finalised to play a part on the show, which ultimately went to Mohammed Nazim. The two even lashed out at each other in the media over the issue. However, Krrip has now moved on. He says, “I didn’t feel humiliated, but was definitely sad. How does it feel to be fired from the job on the very first day? I guess, it’s the unpredictability of our profession that makes us oversensitive. But now, I look at everything positively. The experience has taught me to be patient whenever I come across a hurdle.”
So, does he grudge Nazim anymore? “Not at all. I have moved on from that phase. I just feel that it’s not right to talk about someone who is losing his job. We, too, have to run our kitchen. We are from the same industry and are bound to meet each other. So, I hold no grudges, I won’t grow if I do,” he replies.
“My journey has been full of struggles and I have experienced more lows than highs. But these experiences keep me grounded and they have helped me become a better artiste,” he adds.
Talking about lows, the actor suffered a severe blow when his father passed away on the day of his marriage, and the wedding plans had to be put on hold. So, he brought his bride home after applying sindoor, without following any of the rituals.
Krrip recalls, “Simran (his wife) is my bhabhi’s sister. While she has been in love with me since 2008, when my brother got married to her sister, I took around a year-and-a-half to reciprocate. Her love and dedication convinced me that she was the one for me.”
However, the initial years were not easy for the couple. The actor says, “I lost my father to cancer on September 6, 2014, the day of our wedding. People around me blamed Simran for it, calling her inauspicious. They should realise that I got my first big break (in Kalash) after I married her. She is lucky for me, and she has been a strong support during my difficult times. I love her too much, maine usse jane nahi diya. For me, relationships are more valuable than money.”
On August 5 last year, Krrip remarried Simran according to proper rituals at a gurudwara in Mumbai. “The wedding got delayed, as I was busy with my work. Paise banane aur kaam karne mein masroof tha,” he says.
The marriage has also been marred with controversies. While Krrip was rumoured to be dating his Kalash co-actor Aparna Dixit, there were reports that Simran had found solace in a female colleague at a production house, where she worked briefly. Krrip clarifies, “If you share great on-screen chemistry with your co-actor, it doesn’t mean that you are dating her. We are paid to play our parts convincingly, and if we don’t share good on-screen chemistry, the audience will not like us. There was nothing between Aparna and me. My wife knows that and in fact, she and Aparna are good friends. Yes, it took her some time to come to terms with the demands of my profession, but she understands it better now. Rumours of Simran dating a female colleague are baseless, too. She was working at a production house and the bosses were impressed with her competence and diligence. Some people couldn’t digest that and starting circulating these rumours. It was Simran’s decision to quit the job. We are unfazed by the rumours of trouble in our marriage. We trust each other immensely and are going strong.”
All’s well that ends well. Just like his professional life, Krrip now wants to begin a new chapter on the personal front. He shares, “Simran and I want to go the family way soon. Both of us would like to have a daughter (smiles).”
