Kasautii Zindagii Kay: Shweta Tiwari to Erica Fernandes, a look at the old and new cast

Ekta Kapoor, who launched Kasautii Zindagii Kay in 2001, gave some of the most iconic characters in television. Her characters Prerna, Anurag and Mr. Bajaj are still etched in memories. After 10 years, the makers of the show brought back the love story of Prerna and Anurag with new actors Erica Fernandes and Parth Samthaan. And people are loving the show if we go by the TRPs. Here's a list of the cast from the original Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2001) and the reboot version (2018). Take a look:

When Shweta Tiwari was cast in the lead role of Prerna, her character became a household name instantly. He character was shown to be quite an introvert but she portrayed the role of a strong woman. On the other hand, in the reprised version actress Erica Fernandes is a fighter, and doesn't think twice before seeking revenge. Ekta, during the launch of the show, made sure to portray the characters keeping in mind the recent times. New age Prerna is shown to be a rebel, who rightfully claims her position in the Basu family as Anurag's wife. She even exposes Komolika's real intentions and gets her arrested. Prerna of 2001 married Mr. Bajaj after Anurag got married to Komolika and she lost all hopes of getting back her love.

Actor Cezanne Khan played the role of Anurag Basu in 2001 but in 2018 popular actor Parth Samthaan has been roped in to play the role of Anurag. 2001's Anurag was quite boring and was more of a mamma's boy but 2018's Anurag is quite outspoken and fights for his rights. The makers of the show replaced Cezanne and roped in actor Hiten Tejwani in the later part of the show. Cezanne played the role of Anurag for 7 years and Hiten was for a year till the show went off the air. But it seems as Parth as Anurag is here to stay and his on-screen chemistry with Prerna has received immense love from the audiences. 2018's Anurag even goes against his mother and tells her that he will be with Prerna whenever she needs him.

Hina Khan and Urvashi Dholakia made the character of Komolika their own and rightfully gained popularity for their unique style. Hina and Urvashi unanimously won hearts with the portrayal of a negative lead with such elan. For the first time on television, a negative lead turned out to be this vicious and their craziness was redefined. Both of them have successfully gained their set of fans. While Urvashi is known for her patent word ‘Nikaa’, Hina gave birth to a new hashtag on social media - #KomoSwag. In the reboot version, the makers have given a break to Komolika's character showing a possibility of her return.

Actor Ronit Bose Roy played the role of Rishabh Bajaj in 2001. The actor was highly appreciated for his exceptional performance. Ronit is the synonym of Rishabh Bajaj and even today he is quite well known for his role as Mr. Bajaj. The makers of KZK 2 have roped in Karan Singh Grover to play the role of Rishabh alongside Erica Fernandes. Ronit's salt and pepper look wooed audiences. Karan's entry as Mr. Bajaj has also created a lot of buzz. It is yet to see how the makers pan out his character.

Actress Poonam Narula played the role of Anurag's sister Nivedita Basu in KZK. In the original show, Nivedita was quite simple but never bonded with Prerna. In reprised version, Nivedita comes across as a very proud and haughty sister of Anurag. Slowly her character is shown to tone down and realise her mistakes. Initially, she was at loggers head with Prerna but now shares a good bond with her. Actress Poonam was part of KZK for 3 years but later the makers roped in Smita Bansal to play the role of Nivedita.

Actor Manish Goel played the role of Anupam Sengupta in KZK. The actor played the role of Nivedita's (Poonam Narula) husband. In real life, Manish and Poonam are happily married to each other. Their on-screen chemistry was applauded by the audiences. In the reboot show, actor Sahil Anand plays the role of Anupam. Both of them are shown to be greedy about money. But Sahil's character in the recent version is more funny, loving towards his wife and a supportive brother-in-law to Anurag.

Actor Deepak Qazir played the role of Anurag's father Moloy Basu in the first installation of Kasautii. While renowned Marathi actor Uday Tikekar plays the role of Moloy in the 2018 show. Deepak Qazir's character brought a lot of wit and humour in Moloy. Uday Tikekar has also managed to bring the same essence.

Actress Kannu Gill who played the role of Mohini Basu, Anurag's mother was shown to be an elite lady with bob cut hair and big bindi. Actress Shubhavi Choksey, who plays the role of Mohini in this season, wears sari in traditional style, heavy jewellery. The big bindi has been a common factor in both the actresses. Shubhaavi's Mohini comes across as a much vocal person than Kannu's Mohini.
