#InternationalFamilyDay: From Khichdi to Saathiya, here's a look at audience’s favourite families on TV

On International Family Day, we walked memory lane and recounted popular families on Indian television that have regaled audiences. Here's a look...

2/8

Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

This show is India’s longest-running comedy show. Here's it's not about one family, but many families in Gokuldham society which have become one big unit. Right from emphasising on values to focussing on how it is important to stick together during the ups and down, the show regaled viewers from all age groups

3/8

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

This iconic show is one show people will never forget. The re-runs have an audience even today. The ideal daughter-in-law Tulsi played by Smriti Irani is still loved by people. How a boy from a wealthy Gujarati family falls in love with a daughter of a pandit is how it began. It was a big, joint family - the Viranis. The show was all about each one's life and how it impacted the family. Kyunki... went through a number of time leaps too.

4/8

Khichdi

The story was about a Gujarati family - the Parekhs. The humour in the show was much appreciated and along with that every character for their performance and what they brought to the table. The hilarious situations and how this family together dealt with every problem that came their way, made this show a big hit among audiences.

5/8

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii

This story was truly a story of a lot of homes in India. How the daughter-in-law of a family takes charge of the entire household is what it all began with. The story revolved around a Marwari family where Sakshi Tanwar and Kiran Karmarkar played the lead roles. The struggles and conspiracies that happen in a joint family were shown here and people found it relatable. The character of Parvati played by Sakshi Tanwar became iconic.

6/8

Sarabhai VS Sarabhai

This cult comedy show is one the most loved TV shows of all time. Right from Rosesh’s poems to Monisha Sarabhai’s middle-class attitude, everything about the Sarabhai family was entertaining. Each character was uniquene and that is why even today people remember them. The actors Rajesh Kumar, Rupali Ganguly, Satish Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah are equally passionate about their show and have reunions even today.

7/8

Sath Nibhana Saathiya

Right from Kokila Modi’s Rasode Mein Kaun Tha dialogue to Gopi bahu's washing her husband’s laptop scene, this show had a mix of a lot of elements. It was all about the Modi family, where the boys marry two cousin sisters. All the nok-jhok that happens in fanilies was portrayed on this show and it appealed to the audiences. No wonder there has been a spin-off of Saathiya and also another show which has the same actors.

8/8

Shararat

This story of three witches and their dealings with muggles was a staple of audiences in the 90s. Farida Jalal, Poonam Narula and Shruti Seth - the witches - had their daily adventures of which were very interesting. The Malhotra family here was very entertaining. This magical comedy might seem like a kid-centric show but even adults loved to watch it and they still do on OTT.
