Gurmeet Chaudhary’s hilarious take on wife Debina playing the role of Vishkanya: You are going to play your real self on-screen

Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee are a fun couple and the two don’t miss a moment to either shower their love on each other or tease each other. While Debina is all set to portray the role of Vishkanya in upcoming show Vish: A poisonous love story; Gurmeet had a hilarious reaction when he learned about this development. The actress spoke to TimesofIndia.com exclusively and revealed everything about her upcoming role, fear of getting typecast, baby plans and a lot more. By: Sukarna Mondal

Sita in Ramayan to Vishkanya in Vish A poisonous love story

It has been a wide range of experience. We took a leap of faith. It has been challenging because we don’t know yet whether the character is going to be accepted or not. Even during Ramayan, I had no idea if I would be accepted in the role of Sita and later had the fear of being type cast. But it has always worked for me when I take such chances. Photo: Instagram

Playing an antagonist is easier than playing a Goddess

It’s very easy to portray the role of an antagonist. It’s difficult to play a role of a Goddess. Buraa banne me zyada waqt nahi lagti, achhai ko tikake rakhne me zyada time lagta hai (It’s easy easier to ruin an image than build a positive image). I don’t think it will be difficult for me to play this role. It’s rather challenging to play the role of an entertaining antagonist. We have seen many villains on TV. My character won’t be a boring one. I have tried to keep it interesting. Audience would want to know what will happen next. Photo: Instagram

I said ‘no’ to another show to be a part of Vish

I was offered two shows, one being Vish. I had to say ‘no’ to the other show because I wanted to be a part of Vish. With a thorough conviction, I agreed to the role. I wanted to explore this territory. Naagin and Vishkanya are part of Indian fairytales. Photo: Instagram

Numerous look tests

We did around 20 mock shoots and look tests to get the mood and nuances of the character. Meanwhile, we were going through a lot of trial and error to understand the chemistry between all the actors and many things. Photo: Instagram

Gurmeet’s reaction on Debina playing a Vishkanya

Gurmeet was absolutely convinced that I could play the part. He said, “Arre, you are going to play yourself on-screen. You will do very well.” He kept teasing me and said, “Vish, Vish…” Photo: Instagram

On taking the family ahead

Definitely, but not right away. We have never hidden anything and whenever we plan a family; we’ll tell everyone. But we want to be confident about it. We are not saying that we won’t have kids. I believe it’s very important to have someone whom you call your own when you grow old. Photo: Instagram

Happy to be working in the era of reality shows

Gurmeet and I had the fear of being typecast in roles similar to Rama and Sita from Ramayan. We took part in all the reality shows so that the audience could see our real self. We were blessed to be working in the time when reality shows were booming. It is then people start recognising you by your real name and not your character name. Photo: Instagram

Not interested in Bigg Boss

I am not too comfortable to be a part of Bigg Boss. Gurmeet and I did a similar kind of show – Pati, Patni aur Woh. There are two kinds of reality shows – what you want to show and what you get to see. I want to keep my private life absolutely private and not bring it out in the open. Photo: Instagram
