Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan’s Shubhangi Latkar from on the recent Dowry track, "Relationships should be based on respect, not transactions"
Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan, a popular show with Sheizaan Khan (Siddhu) and Amandeep Sidhu (Sneha) in the lead roles, has always been at the forefront of bringing up tough social issues. The show has resonated with viewers because of its powerful storytelling, which ranges from addressing the unhealthy desire for only male children to showing the problems women face just because they are women. Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan's recent track talks about the deep-seated stigma of dowry. In the recent episodes, Ganga Mai (Shubhangi Latkar) has to mortgage her house to pay for Sahana's (Srishti Jain) mother in law’s high demand, the story takes a sad turn. Actor Shubhangi Latkar says that while dowry is still a serious social issue, playing such intense situations can also be hard.
Shubhangi says, "As an actor, I try to show her helplessness and her inner strength in an honest way. It reminds me of how strong social pressures can be. Her journey also shows bravery and hope for change.”
The actress goes on to say, "Yes, in the past, these kinds of things happened a lot, even if they weren't always talked about. In our family, it was always clear that that relationships should be built on respect, not transactions. We choose to walk away from things that didn't fit with what we believe. Even though it's hard, I think it's important to stand firm.”
Shubhangi, who is also a mother in real life, stresses how important it is to teach your daughters strong values. She says, "As a mother, I always tell my daughter to respect herself and never give up her dignity. I want all daughters to know that they are worthy of love no matter what. It may be hard to take a stand, but it's always the right thing to do.
In the next episodes, we will see how Ganga Mai, Sahana, and Sneha bravely stand up against dowry. The track will also show how Durgawati (Indira Krishna) finds out that Siddhu loves someone else, not Purvi (Yasmeen).
