From Shehnaaz Gill to Mika Singh: Celebs who participated in ‘swayamvars’ to choose their life partners and what they are up to now

There are dating reality shows and then there are other reality shows, where celebs have participated to select their life partner for marriage. With the latest offering – Swayamvar: Mika Di Vohti, several other reality shows have aired in the past. Did those bonds last long? Here take a look at celebrities, who participated in ‘swayamvars’ with the intent to get married to the partners they chose on a public platform and what they are up to now.

During the season finale of Bigg Boss 13, makers announced a new show featuring Shehnaaz Gill as a prospective dulhan, in search of a partner. A lot of buzz was created, with Shehnaaz herself getting excited about the wedding show. The show was Mujhse Shaadi Karoge. Neha Kakkar’s husband and singer Rohanpreet Singh and comedian Balraj Syal, who’s now married to Deepti Tuli, were contenders in the show as prospective suitors for Shehnaaz. However, Shehnaaz decided to quit midway owing to her bond and love with Sidharth Shukla in 2020.

Bollywood singer Mika Singh’s search for her ‘vohti’ in ‘Swayamvar: Mika Di Vohti’ came to an end on July 25, with him choosing his friend of 13 years – Akanksha Puri. While a lot has been talked about Akanksha’s win, the two stated that they wished to take their friendship to the next level. There were 15 participants and Akanksha entered the show at the last moment. The singer and his wife-to-be exchanged garlands on stage. The two were spotted partying together after the show wrapped up. Currently, both are away for their work commitments.

In Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Paras Chhabra was also a contestant alongside Shehnaaz Gill. There were 5 girls, who participated to win Paras’ heart. Paras chose actress Aanchal Khurana (she is currently seen in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2). However, the two are not together.

Rakhi Sawant’s swayamvar was held back in 2009, ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’. It was one of the most controversial shows back then. By the end of the show Rakhi chose Elesh Parujanwala, an NRI contestant as her partner. She later called off the engagement. Rakhi Sawant then got married in 2019 to US-based Ritesh Singh who appeared on Bigg Boss 15 as a guest for her. Rakhi Sawant announced her separation from Ritesh Singh recently. She is currently dating Bengaluru-based businessman Adil Khan Durrani, whom she recently introduced to her fans.

Rahul Mahajan was seen in the second season of the Swayamvar series. His was a hugely publicized show. Of all the swayamvar shows, his lead to marriage. Rahul selected Dimpy Ganguly and got married to her. However, Dimpy had accused Rahul of domestic violence after a few months of marriage which made them file for divorce. Both of them are now happily married to their respective partners. While Rahul is married to Russian-born Natalya, Dimpy is married to Dubai based businessman Rohit Roy and has 3 kids.

TV actress Ratan Rajput got engaged to Abhinav Sharma on the reality show ‘Ratan Ka Rishta’. By the end of the swayamvar she chose Abhinav Sharma as the winner and the two exchanged rings on national television. However, the two called off their engagement citing compatibility issues. Ratan, who was last seen in Santoshi Maa – Sunayein Vrat Kathayein in 2020 and during the pandemic, shifted to her village.
