From Krushna's absence in Govinda special episodes to Mukesh Khanna calling it cheap; times when The Kapil Sharma Show courted controversies

The Kapil Sharma Show has made its way back to the small screen. While the show is best known for tickling the audience’s funny bones, it has often grabbed eyeballs by falling prey to some uninvited controversies. When, where and how? Here’s a list of all those times when the show got caught up in controversies:

Navjot Singh Sidhu was the guest judge on the show but he was replaced by Archana Puran Singh. He was very much a part of the show until his remark about the Pulwama attack faced a backlash from people. It was only after this incident that he was replaced by the latter.

It was when the whole cast of Mahabharata was invited to the show and everybody but veteran actor Mukesh Khanna appeared on the show. This raised eyebrows and the actor himself came out to answer the question about his absence. In his statement on social media, he called The Kapil Sharma Show ‘worse’ and ‘cheap’ and cited that it uses vulgarity to make people laugh.

The rift between actor Krushna Abhishek and his ‘mama’ Govinda has not been hidden. And the show’s audience got to see the bitterness between them when the former refused to perform in the episode wherein the latter was invited as a guest. Krushna had confirmed the same in one of his interviews to a news portal and shared that it was because he didn’t want the differences between them to affect the show.

It was in October 2020, when Kiku Sharda copied an Indian journalist extensively covering Sushant Singh Rajput’s death for a segment in the show. Krushna and Kapil also became a part of the segment. However, the mockery of SSR’s death news coverage didn’t go well with his fans and they trended #BoycottKapilSharmaShow on Twitter.

This was one of the most controversial moments for the show. It was when the team of The Kapil Sharma Show was returning from their Australia tour that Kapil and Sunil Grover, who was a part of the show then got into an ugly spat. Reports suggested that the former verbally and physically assaulted the latter which ultimately led to his exit from the show. Sunil quit the show to never return after the news about their nasty fight broke out.

The show was once again in talks when the reports about a rift between co-actors Kiku and Krushna broke out. Allegedly, it was during their on-screen act that the former commented about the latter’s differences with his ‘mama Govinda which didn’t go well with him. It is known that Krushna didn’t like it and reprimanded Kiku for the same, which ultimately affected their equation. However, the actor had dismissed the rumours saying that all is well between them.

It was during an episode in March 2020 that Kapil cracked a joke and took the name of a Kayasth deity, which offended the members of the community. The members of the community demanded an apology and called for boycotting the show. Following this, Kapil had to issue a public apology too.
