From Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal's sexual harassment allegations to Shailesh Lodha's legal notice; Times when Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah was mired in controversies

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been one of the longest-running shows on Television. However, the show has witnessed major ups and downs and gotten mired in serious controversies. From Munmun Dutta and Dilip Joshi's comments to Shailesh Lodha and Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal's serious allegations take a look at the controversies the show has had in the past few years.

Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, who plays the character of Mrs Roshan Sodhi, quit the show after 15 years. The actress accused the show's producer Asit Kumarr Modi and two other members of the production of mental and sexual harassment. The actress exclusively disclosed the case with ETimes TV, she said, “Yes, I’ve left the show. It is right that I shot my last episode of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on March 6 this year. I had to leave the sets as I was subjected to humiliation and insult at the hands of Mr Sohail Ramani and the other executive producer Jatin Bajaj."

Shailesh Lodha has also filed a lawsuit against the producers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in order to receive his outstanding salary, a few reports said last month. Lodha filed a complaint against TMKOC producer Asit Modi for unpaid dues in March and also sued his production firm. The actor also approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to resolve the matter. The hearing, in this case, is scheduled for May.

Shailesh Lodha was the first one to open up about the payment dues despite quitting the show. Not only Shailesh but even former Tapu aka Raj Anadkat's payment has been due since he quit the show. In December 2022, Raj officially announced his exit from the show on his Instagram handle.

“Ae pagal aurat” was amongst the most hilarious lines by Jethalal (Dilip Joshi) in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. But who would have thought in the wildest dreams that it might cause trouble for the makers? As shared by Dilip, the dialogue was improvised by him and some women’s liberation movements took an objection to making a derogatory remark about females. The makers had no option but to remove the dialogue permanently.

Another massive controversy happened when Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah was warned by the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena( MNS). It all happened when in one of the occurrences, Champaklal( Amit Bhatt) addressed Hindi as Mumbai’s main language. MNS thought TMKOC intentionally hurt the sentiments of Maharashtrians. The party workers advised of halting the shoot. The matter was sorted when Amit Bhatt and the TMKOC team apologized.

Another major controversy kicked in when Munmun Dutta made a casteist slur in her make-up video. Despite the actress apologizing to the viewers, there were two FIRs filed against Munmun. Netizens had also demanded the removal of the actress.
