From being yelled at by director of a TV show to addressing if she got fillers; how Avneet Kaur fought trolls and negativity in her journey

From being the youngest contestant on DID and Jhalak to tackling industry pressure, Avneet Kaur has faced her share of challenges. In a candid conversation with Hauterrfly, she opens up about being yelled at by a TV director, addressing filler rumors, and battling online trolls. She also shares personal struggles, including her mother’s sacrifices and facing patriarchy within her own family, particularly from her grandmother.

On people commenting on her looks

People say that what have I done to my face, body. Arre, when I started, I was just 7-8 years old. I have grown up. I am 23 now, you hit puberty and so many changes happen to your body.

3/8

On if she has done fillers

No, I haven’t done anything that have changed my features. But I go for skin facials, HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and other skin treatments to tighten my skin. I have decent features, please stop commenting that I have changed my features.

4/8

On body image issues

During Tiku Weds Sheru, I had gained 5-6 kgs, and then people started commenting, you have to lose weight. That time, I was a bit conscious. I am though confident in my own body and my skin.

5/8

Facing negativity

When I had just started, people would comment, ‘dekho beti se kaam karwa rahe hai’, ‘isko idhar hi rakhna tha’, ‘iski shaadi kara do’. Even now, we went to Punjab and someone said, ‘dekho beti kaise kapde pehente hai’. My parents have heard a lot, but thankfully, my parents always gave me power and the freedom to choose, freedom to wear and be myself.

Learning bad touch, good touch

During dance rehearsals, someone from spot, tried to touch me inappropriately. I felt uncomfortable and told my mom. She made me realise the difference between good touch and bad touch. I was 8 or 9 back then. I have prepared myself till then.

7/8

Her initial days in the industry

I was very young and I was doing a daily soap back then. It had scarred me a little that time. It was a monologue and it was really big. It was my first day on that set. I was really stressed and I fumbled. I kept trying. Suddenly, he switched on the mic and started yelling, ‘iss ladki se kuch nahi hoga, main dekh liya hai, kuch kar hi nahi payegi’. He kept yelling slangs and all. In that set, even my parents were not allowed. I was so heartbroken but then I got to learn he was doing that to many female artists, even the popular ones.

8/8

When she met Tom Cruise

It was mesmerising. When I was called for Mission Impossible promotions, I was like are you sure that it is Tom Cruise. I had so many questions to ask. He showed me around all the places where the scenes were shot, the sets. He also did a scene and I saw him for real. He had bruises on his back. It is magic to see him in real life. I was in awe of him and asked him a lot of questions.
