Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, which first aired between January 1987 and July 1988, was a huge hit. The iconic TV show clocked 33 years in January. All the actors associated with the show reached new heights of stardom and popularity after being a part of it especially the trio of Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia and Sunil Lahri, who played lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman respectively. There are many unheard and interesting stories about the cult TV show which will definitely leave you amused. Take a look.

Dipika Chikhlia recalls shooting underneath a tree while a big fat snake hung on it

The above picture is about when Ram, Lakshman and Sita were observing 'vanvaas' (staying in the forest). They gave up on the luxuries of life and started living in the forest. For shooting this scene, the three - Arun Govil, Sunil Lahri and Dipika were seated beneath the tree and rehearsing their lines, working on the scene. Later, their cinematographer asked the cast and the crew to vacate the area and informed them about snake being hunged on one of the branches of that tree. Recalling this incident, Dipika Chikhklia said that they all ran for their life after learning about the snake's existence at the location of the shoot. (Photo: Instagram)

Cast was offered a whopping amount for sensuous shoots:

Actor Arun Govil, who became a national icon in the eighties playing Ram in the eighties serial "Ramayan", recalled on The Kapil Sharma Show that there was a time when the cast of the series was approached for sensuous photoshoots. "While we were shooting for 'Ramayan', a lot of renowned magazines approached me and the other cast members to do sensuous photoshoots for them. They were so desperate that they were ready to pay hefty amounts for it. But none of us accepted their offers and we believed that our audiences' look up to and rest their faith in us. The host of The Kapil Sharma Show, who reminisced the days when Ramayan aired for the first time on Indian Television, said, “Every time the show aired on the television, female members in my house and the neighbours who used to come over to watch the show always had their dupatta over their heads to pay respect."
