Munawar was arrested in 2021 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of the people. He was sent behind bars on January 1 and was granted bail on February 5. He spent around 37 days in the Indore jail. During that time, 12 of his shows were canceled. He has been quite open about his horrific experience in jail. In an exclusive interview he said, “Jail is the hell where you go alive. I wouldn't even want to send my arch-enemy to this hell. You are disconnected from the outer world where you are ordered to do basic things of your routine. There were people who went back home after 14 years and couldn't find their homes. The family members had stopped meeting them and also relocated themselves.”

In 2022, Munawar Faruqui participated in Kangana Raunat’s Lock Upp. At the beginning, he was trolled and received negative comments over his participation in the show. However, with time Munawar cleared his name and expressed his real self to the world. He started making headlines for his journey in the show and became one of the most loved reality show contestants thereafter.

One of the big revelations made by Munawar on Lock Upp was about how he was sexually abused as a child. This revelation made by him shocked everyone. He said, "I was 6 to 7 years old when I was sexually assaulted. They were relatives. It continued for 4 to 5 years. It was a close family and I didn't understand it then. Fourth year when it went extreme, they realised they should stop. I have never shared this with everyone as I have to face them. I didn't find any use of telling it to anyone. I think my dad knew about it. He said something once that made me feel like he knows it but I don't remember clearly. Now I think dad didn't say anything as he might have felt the same...like how do you tell anyone about it."

During his time in Lock Upp, there were rumours of him being secretly married and having a child. Kangana asked him about the same and showed him a blurred picture of him with his former wife. At first he denied the claims but later accepted that he was married and even had a child. He confirmed that he and his wife have been separated for 1.2 years and the custody of the child and the divorce matter is at the court.

Netizens really loved Munawar’s true personality on the show and he emerged as the winner of the first season of Kanaga Ranaut hosted Lock Upp. He became a household name and his career graph peaked post that.

In a recent episode of Bigg Boss 17, Munawar opened up about his child and how he has been missing him. He also talked about the divorce with his former wife and child custody. Munawar added, “I’ve a 5-year-old son, he has been staying away but he came to me 6 months back. Finally I have him and after being around him for a couple of months I realised what I’ve been missing on in life. Since the past 3-4 months I’ve connected a lot to him and hence I can’t stop thinking about him. I’m missing him a lot and what I wonder all day is what he must be doing right now.”

There were a lot of speculations of who Munawar was dating when he was in Lock Upp. Many even linked him up with fellow contestant Anjali Arora. However, post the show, Munawar introduced everyone to his girlfriend Nazila. The couple received immense love and fame from the fans. However, according to reports, the two are no longer together.

After his first reality show was a big hit, netizens badly wanted to see him again on TV. However, despite being approached by Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss, Munawar didn’t participate in the show.
