Exclusive - Udne Ki Aasha actor Kanwar Dhillon On Valentine's Day: For me, a relationship should be built on mutual respect, love, and care

Kanwar Dhillon is currently seen playing Sachin in Udne Ki Aasha and has been impressing fans with his performance. The actor is dating actress Alice Kaushik in real life, and the couple is going strong. On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, he spoke about his relationship with Alice, what the day means to him, and the qualities he values most in his partner.

Valentine’s Day often celebrates couples. What does the day personally mean to you?

For me, Valentine’s Day has always been quite simple. It’s just another day, but a day meant to celebrate something special. Personally, it means spending time with the person I love. If I’m not shooting, maybe we step out for lunch, dinner, or coffee — depending on how much time Alice and I have, especially if we are both working. Even if it’s just grabbing a meal together, that’s enough. It’s about taking some time out of a busy routine to be with each other.

Do you see Valentine’s Day as pressure, celebration, or just another day — and has that perspective changed over time?

I’ve never been someone who celebrates any day under pressure, whether it’s Valentine’s Day or anything else. For me, it’s just another day — a special one, yes — but not something that comes with expectations or stress. That perspective hasn’t really changed over time. Even if you don’t go out on Valentine’s Day, you should ideally be expressing love and care in your everyday life anyway. It’s simply about finding time in your routine to acknowledge each other.




As an actor, romance is often portrayed in scripted perfection. How does that compare to your real-life expectations of love?

Romance on screen is often inspired by real-life expectations of love, and sometimes it works the other way around too. But there’s really no comparison. Your personal life is real, while what you see on screen is fiction. In real life, my expectations are very simple — to be loved, to give love in return, to be respected, and to give respect in return. Everything else naturally falls into place. For me, respect, love, and care are the foundation of any meaningful relationship.

Are you someone who enjoys self-love rituals on Valentine’s Day, or do you prefer to keep it low-key?

I definitely prefer to keep it low-key, and so does Alice. We don’t believe in making a big fuss about any particular day. We like simple celebrations — a quiet dinner, lunch, coffee, or maybe a movie, depending on how much time we have. I do believe in putting in that extra effort for the other person, even if I personally feel neutral about the day. As partners, it’s important to respect what the other person feels. So I try to make it special in small or big ways, whatever is possible at that time. But overall, we like to keep things simple.

What qualities do you value most in a partner today, compared to when you first started your career?

Honestly, my core beliefs haven’t changed much from when I first started my career until now. The qualities I value most are very basic yet fundamental — you should feel happy with the other person. You should feel cared for, respected, and loved. These are the pillars of a relationship. If even one of these is missing, then it’s probably not a relationship you should be in. I also believe that these are qualities both partners should possess. I make sure I put in that extra effort as well. For me, a relationship should be built on mutual respect, love, and care — and that belief has remained constant over the years.
