Neha Dhupia: As a woman, I don’t feel safe at all; safety of women is a global issue

Film actress and reality TV host Neha Dhupia isn’t shy to call a spade a spade. Be it on or off the camera, she is quite vocal about her views. In an exclusive chat with TimesOfIndia.com, the good looking lady talked about her hectic work, Roadies journey and some socially relevant issues. (By: Rupsa Sengupta)

About Roadies auditions

The discussion started with her journey in the adventure-based reality show ‘Roadies’. The mother and actress is quite busy attending the auditions held in 4 cities. “We are visiting different cities for the auditions. It’s quite hectic but I’m enjoying it,” she said. (Photo: Facebook)

About her Roadies journey

Neha, who has completed 5 years with ‘Roadies’, considers the show to be one of her best experiences. “It has been an amazing journey for me. I have met many people from different cultures, backgrounds with different experiences. It has been an astounding experience for me indeed,” she stated. (Photo: Facebook)

‘Roadies is like 20 different voices gathered onto a single platform’

Neha explained how meeting contestants across the country has been a truly learning experience for her. She said, “Many young people come to Roadies because they consider the platform as a place to which they can relate. A platform where they can unapologetically accept their life the way it is, or share some gruesome incidents which veered their lives. Roadies is like 20 different voices gathered onto a single platform.” She also explained, those 20 different voices have 20 different experiences to share and most of those aren’t fairy tales. ‘Listening to their horrific experience makes me both sad and angry’

Neha said those confessions made by the contestants leave a lasting impact on the hosts as well. The actress took a pause and added, “Can you imagine the trauma a girl has undergone when she comes for the audition and talks about sexual abuse. I still remember a girl in the show who shared how she was sexually abused by a relative of hers when she was very young. Listening to their horrific experience makes me both sad and angry.” (Photo: Facebook)

‘As a woman, I don’t feel safe’

When asked about the safety of women, she quickly added, “Owing to the current situation in our country, where almost every day many girls get raped, molested, beaten or killed after being raped, all I would say is “No, we aren’t safe. As a woman, I don’t feel safe at all. But then, why in India, the safety of women is a global issue which needs to be addressed right now.” Neha’s voice reflected her state of mind perfectly. ‘Safety is every woman's right’

Neha shared that she wants every girl to remember that safety is their basic right. She added, “Waking up to the news of girls getting raped or killed is painful. Every day, there are a number of news articles on the same. Sometimes, I am scared to read the newspaper. I would like to tell the girls, safety is every woman’s right. And none should take that away!” (Photo: Facebook)
