Exclusive - Farrhana Bhatt shares Ramadan is a wonderful and beautiful time: From the evenings of Srinagar to the lively Iftaar nights of Mumbai
Farrhana Bhatt says the month of Ramadan is very special to her. For her, it is not only about fasting from sunrise to sunset, but also about feeling closer to her faith, spending time with family, and being thankful. Farrhana has celebrated Ramadan in both Srinagar and Mumbai. She says both places give her beautiful memories. While Srinagar is where she first learned about Ramadan and celebrated it with her family, Mumbai has shown her different and diverse ways of celebrating the holy month.
Farrhana Bhatt says, "Ramadan in Srinagar was always very peaceful. The mornings when we had Sehri were very calm. It felt like the whole valley was praying. The sound of Azaan and families waking up together made us feel united and blessed. Our iftaars were simple but full of love. We did not need things. We just needed to be and be grateful."
She also says, "When I was growing up in Srinagar Ramadan meant people in the community cared about each other. Neighbours shared food, older people sat together in the evenings. Everyone respected the month of Ramadan. Even the air felt different. People were more patient, thoughtful and close to God. Those memories are a part of me today."
Farrhana Bhatt talks about her time in Mumbai. "Celebrating Ramadan in Mumbai has been an experience. The city has its way of doing things. When it is time to break the fast the city becomes more beautiful. I love going to places for iftaar. The food, lights and people are amazing. The atmosphere is lively. People are also devoted and happy when they break their fast."
She says, "What I like most about Mumbai is how welcoming it is. People from communities come together to respect and celebrate Ramadan. Going out for iftaar trying foods and feeling excited with others has made this journey special for me."
For Farrhana Bhatt Ramadan is an beautiful time no matter where she is. "Srinagar will always be the place where I first learned about Ramadan. It will always be special to me. Being, in Mumbai has added a new part to my journey. Spending Ramadan in two beautiful places has made me feel very lucky. It is a circle of faith, gratitude and love that I will always treasure " she says.
