Exclusive – Bigg Boss 14’s Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla: People love to watch controversies and we don’t fear anything

TV couple Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla, one of the celebrity couple contestants this season, spoke about participating in the game. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, the couple spoke about their decision to take part in the show amid the pandemic, handling controversies, looking forward to Salman Khan’s Weekend Ka Vaar and more. Excerpts from the conversation just before they entered the BB14 house. By: Sukarna Mondal

Reason to be a part of Bigg Boss 14

Rubina: Till date we were being approached as solo individuals. And if I talk about myself, my personality doesn’t fit the bill in the Bigg Boss criteria. And I have always said that there would be no drama, no controversy from my side, it will be a little unjust for me in the house and be in a corner and do nothing about it. Then they approached us as a couple where the whole dimension just changed. Now it’s going to be interesting because we are two different personalities. Over a period of time, in our relationship we have discovered so many interesting things about each other. I think Bigg Boss provides us that platform and opportunity where we can as today’s modern contemporary couple we can be relatable with audiences and couples of our generation. It has a relatable factor. And also, as a public figure we have that responsibility on our shoulder where we may or may not excel at but the journey is going to be interesting.

Abhinav: I am excited to be one of so many people, who have many quirks in them. Some are going to be funny too, which they don’t know of yet. And I am excited thinking that how I will be part of that argument or a big fight and how I will try to solve it. And also, getting locked in the house with no contact with the outside world is another excitement. With restricted grocery and everything, it is going to test my patience and skills as well.

Strategy to be in the game

A: See, the strategy would be to be ourselves. Bigg Boss is very smart. All strategies will go out of the window on the second or the third day. I also told Rubina, ‘Let’s be ourselves. Let us see if people like us or not’.

R: He is absolutely right. Till today, we haven’t even spoken about the game. We are not ashamed of ourselves. As an individual, one thing is very deep-rooted enough is our secured individuality. We have our flaws and mistakes, we are human beings and we accept each other the way we are.

4/9

Tackling physical fights

A: It’s simple – ‘jaise ko taisa’. People who have the habit of yelling and abusing, they don’t understand that this not the way. If you give respect, I give respect. If things go out of hand, I am not going to sit there and watch. Specially, if something happens to her, like someone gets aggressive or physical, that would be my breaking point.

5/9

Breaking point in the game

R: Anybody who tries to cross the respect which I am going to clear. I am the best for good people and the worst for bad people.

6/9

Addressing personal questions and controversies

A: It is what it is. If someone picks up on a personal issue asking ‘aisa hua tha, waisa hua tha’, then it is ok. We don’t fear anything and we haven’t done anything controversial like a lot of other people have done. So we don’t have to worry much about it. And people love watching things like that so let them enjoy.

R: For both of us, in past six years, we have known each other’s past quite well enough and made peace with it. At the end of the day, what matters is how comfortable we are with each other’s past. We have walked past it. Now when it comes to public arena, we are going to embrace it.

7/9

Doing household chores and sharing responsibilities

R: We have seen all our household-chores related fights during the lockdown and we have graduated. I don’t think in BB house there will be problem until someone creates a problem. We don’t see any work as big or small.

8/9

On host Salman Khan’s Weekend Ka Vaar

A: There are some contestants who get a lot of scolding and there are some who gets less schooling. I think, we will get less scolding. But he is a good host. I love the way he hosts the show.

R: I have come here as a guest, and now as a contestant there will be more interaction. We will get to know him even closer. As a personality he comes across as a very interesting and intriguing.

On Rubina’s style statement in the house

A: (Pointing at the room and his arms stretched) Rubina has got these many clothes.

R: From Shimla, we took a flight and were put here in quarantine. For me, how I am, if it includes a glamour quotient then it is what it is. I believe in ‘life is too short to wear boring clothes’. For me, the first impression of a person is how you dress and I have taken it personally. Ever since, I have started getting pocket money – this thing is in my mind. I am always in my best – even if I am wearing a salwar kameez, I will complete my look with a bindi and jhumka.

A: If Rubina’s funda is ‘life is too short to wear boring clothes’, my funda is ‘life is too short to keep changing clothes’. Ever since lockdown started, I have hardly worn 4-5 sets – they were cleaned everyday but I keep it minimal.
