Behzaad Khan is a well-known face on Indian television with a strong body of work across fiction, fantasy and historical shows. He has been part of popular TV series such as Geet Hui Sabse Parayi, Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek Arjun, Yehh Jaadu Hai Jinn Ka, Ali Baba Dastaan-E-Kabul, Baalveer 3, Vanshaj, Tenali Rama and Seher Hone Ko Hai, earning appreciation for his commanding screen presence.
Talking exclusively to Times of India TV Behzaad said, "The show "Seher Hone Ko Hai" is happening because I've already worked with the makers a long time ago. There was a show called Geet Hui Sabse Parayi. In that show, I was playing the antagonist. And for this role too, they needed an equally strong and prominent actor with a good screen presence, someone who could justify the role, so they approached me. They asked if I would be interested in doing this show or not. And some things in your life you do for the relationships, and sometimes, because of those relationships, you get something really nice."
He adds, "This character Waseem which I'm playing has layers. You know, he's a family man. He has his own ambitions, and he's morally ambiguous. His thought process is a bit negative and villainous. He's very ambitious; he wants what he wants. And throughout his life, he wanted to be the next Mufti of Lucknow.
And there's a conflict within the character. It's a very interesting character. When they narrated this character to me, I was really intrigued by it. And I found it a very interesting character."
He revealed, "I took a couple of days to decide whether I wanted to do another TV show because I'm doing films and web series, so managing time is a bit difficult while you're doing TV. But this particular character, after giving it some thought, I decided to go for it, to do it, because this character was very interesting. And I don't think they had many choices for Waseem Niazi. They had me in mind, and when I agreed to do it, that's how I came on board for the show, Seher Hone Ko Hai. So I think I was their first choice because they had seen my work. So that's what happens when you do good work, maintain relationships, and are an easy actor to work with. People want to work with you again and again, and that's how I ended up here. And what made me uh choose "Seher Hone Ko Hai" at this point, because, you know, for me, the medium isn't very important, and I like to be on set, and wherever I see interesting characters or interesting roles, irrespective of the medium, I go and do it, because the set is my favorite place to be."
Talking about his thoughts on casting for basis on followers he says, nowadays in most castings, they also look at Instagram followers, but I think good filmmakers, those who want a good actor, probably don't look at that, or rather, they don't even look at how many followers someone has on Instagram.
He concludes, "They want someone to justify their role and their character. And then, in that process, they approach a good actor and sign them. But yes, nowadays there are many mediums, many platforms where they check Instagram following. And then, for actors, this mostly happens in reality shows, and then there's this new vertical series format where they check this, but I don't think it matters that much. You keep doing good work. People will remember you, and they will call you for their characters and roles."
