Exclusive - Amit Das on taking care of pets and strays: Many societies had banned me
Diya Aur Baati Hum actor Amit Das revealed that he was banned from a couple of societies because he used to feed stray dogs. He also shared that there is a rise in the cruelty against pets in the country because people are ignorant.
He said, “I am an animal lover. I try my best to take care of all the dogs, especially in the Goregaon area where my cafe is located and where I live. I provide them with food and any other facilities they may need. I arrange for deworming, medical care if they fall ill, and take care of the puppies. But because of all this, many societies have banned me.”
“I had a lot of clashes with some people there because I used to go inside society to feed the dogs. I had to involve the cops for help, and now they know that I have the support of the police, so no one messes with me. But the problem is that there is a lack of awareness in our country about how to care for pets, how to treat animals, and what language they understand,” he added.
He feels that there is a lack of awareness in society and humans are unable to understand the psychology of animals. Describing it further, he said, “For example, when a dog runs behind someone on the street, we think it will bite, but the psychology of a dog is not the same as a human. The dog tends to react to the motion of the car, bike, and the cycle we are on. If you stop, the dog also stops, and it becomes calm. They feel that it might harm their children, or their friends.”
He also explained that a dog bites for various reasons and not because he is a threat. He said, “A dog has been hungry for four-five days, you go and tease it, beat it with a stick, and throw stones at it, what will the dog do? They will get irritated and might bite. I always tell all my friends and relatives that if a dog bites, there's an injection that can immediately cure it.”
“It's better to have dogs as friends,” Amit ended.

I am also facing the same thing here at howrah in my complex where my son feeds the stray cats and takes care of them but this is being resisted by other residents of the society, they passed a resolution in the general body meeting and banned feeding inside the campus. Right now three cats have taken shelter in my small flat and are taken care by us. Not only this, the president of the society has instigated the guard who starts shouting all bad things about my family and threatened to beat up my son who now tries to feed the other cats in the complex on the main road outside the complex. The guard went on maligning us day after day first I ignored it but it was unbearable amf other residents were watching the fun from there windows so I confronted him and asked him to be quite and advised him to stay within his parameters. Quarrel ensued amd the president got angry and labeled be as quarrelsome and vindictive and threatened action against me. I am really sad to look at the poor cats asking for food because feeding on the road has one problem that is the dogs come and eat there food can you suggest a way out so that the poor cats can can also survive.Read allPost comment
