Debina Bonnerjee on why she took their toddlers on such a long trip; and how Gurmeet Choudhary was adamant to bring home Bappa

After a month-long Euro trip, Debina Bonnerjee, Gurmeet Choudhary, their daughters Lianna, Divisha were back home just in time to celebrate Ganpati festival. It’s been their tradition and this year too they didn’t give it a miss. Debina and Gurmeet shared how important this year it was to celebrate Bappa, modern parenting tips and more.

Debina and Gurmeet were on a month-long Euro trip and just got back a few days before Ganesh Chaturthi. While the babies were jet lagged, Debina shared that they are working through their minds. She is also relieved as everyone is doing fine healthwise after such a long trip.

Debina shared, “It will be surprising for many people to know coming back after such a long trip and without taking any rest why we are bringing Ganpati. This year was special.”

Debina added, “Gurmeet was adamant to come back before Ganpati because it would be our first Ganpati with the two girls. Every year, we celebrate Ganpati to get something. This year, we wanted to thank him. He has given us a lot of happiness.”

“It is Divisha’s first Ganpati and with her, our family is complete. It’s a thanksgiving Ganpati,” said Debina. Gurmeet added, “Last time Ganpati was celebrated in Lianna’s presence. This year is Divisha’s first. Excitement level is high. Both of my Angels will get ready and I want to see them get ready. Debina always gets them dressed in best. We will all get ready and perform puja.”

Debina and Gurmeet took their daughters Lianna and Divisha on a month-long Euro trip and vlogged their journey thoroughly. Debina shared that many questioned her on taking their toddlers when they won’t remember any of it. To them, Debina replied, “Actually yes, the kids won’t remember anything. But subconsciously, whatever they have in mind, everything will enrich them. For sure, I am not going to regret this trip at all.”

Debina shared that she has always lets Lianna be self-sufficient with food. She shared, “I don’t think about food being wasted if the kids eat food by themselves. I have always let Lianna feel the food and she knows what she is eating and how it is to be eaten. I call it modern parenting.” Gurmeet also added sharing the importance to conducting puja at home. He said, “When the kids see puja being held at home, they will also have those beliefs. They will know that when you are in problem, have belief in God and things will be fine.” Debina added, “Both of us believe that it is necessary to be God-fearing. You will know where to fall back on – mummy, papa and God.”

While usually they bring Ganpati the night before, Gurmeet shared that the morning time on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi was auspicious. Gurmeet went with Debina’s mother to bring home Bappa.

Gurmeet stated that right from decorations to selecting Bappa’s idol, they consulted with their close friend and got them organised over phone. Debina makes sure to feed lunch to all the guests every year instead of serving Prasad. She shared that this year was no different and also showed khichdi, sabzi and kheer. She said, “Every year mom prepares bhog but this year she was very tired. But entire bhog was made at home.”

Ankita Lokhande, Vicky Jain, Himansh Kohli, Karishma Nyrraa Banerji, Munmun Dutta and several others came for Ganpati darshan.
