Celebrity MasterChef: Chef Vikas Khanna backs Gaurav Khanna with facts amid the plagiarism claims; writes 'I have seen this dessert in Japan (Tokyo) in late 2000s'
The finale week of Celebrity MasterChef brought plenty of surprises, and one of the biggest talking points was Gaurav Khanna's beehive-inspired dessert. The dish had been buzzing ever since the promo aired. However, things took a dramatic turn when plagiarism claims began to surface.
After coming out in support of Gaurav, Chef Vikas now shared some more facts regarding the same. On his Instagram handle he wrote, "I have seen this dessert in Japan (Tokyo) in late 2000s. In history, many times, European chefs have taken (inspiration) from Asia and called it their innovation. No credit was given from Murg Makhani to Ice cream to Noodles. This is one such example."
He further added, "I'm waiting for the day when every European chef starts making chocolates by giving credit to the Olmecs. Likely the first to process cacao beans into a ceremonial drink. From Mayans to Aztecs in Mexico is the true birth place of chocolate. And every time bread is baked, a European has to give reverence to Egyptian kitchens or flatbreads in India."
In a recent episode, Gaurav was given ginger as the star ingredient — and what he created left everyone stunned. His dish wasn’t just delicious; it was a visual masterpiece. Both Chef Vikas Khanna and Chef Ranveer Brar were so impressed that they gave him the rare “spoon drop” and “spoon tap” even before tasting it — a gesture that signified absolute admiration. They were speechless, completely taken in by the beauty and precision of his creation.

But the excitement didn’t last long. Once the promo was released, eagle-eyed viewers began to point out that Gaurav’s dish looked strikingly similar to one previously made by another chef. Social media was soon flooded with side-by-side comparisons and videos, with many accusing Gaurav of copying the concept. What started as a moment of high praise quickly spiraled into a storm of criticism.
