'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!' is one of India's most successful and longest-running comedy sitcoms, celebrated for its unique premise centred around two neighbouring couples in Kanpur. The show's core humour stems from the two husbands, Manmohan Tiwari and Vibhuti Narayan Mishra, constantly trying to woo each other's wives, Angoori and Anita, respectively. Over its decade-long run, this comedy of errors has repeatedly transcended its lighthearted episodes to become major news, often due to significant cast controversies, dramatic exits, and the constant buzz around its leading ladies.

Shubhangi Atre, who took on the challenging role of Angoori Bhabhi in 2016, has recently bid an emotional farewell to 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!'. She wrapped up her tenure, which spanned nearly a decade, shooting her final scenes on set.

Shubhangi shared a heartfelt video on her social media, where she distributed jalebis and hugged her "extended family" of cast and crew members, expressing profound gratitude for the successful run. Her departure marks a major turning point for the show.

Following Shubhangi Atre's departure, news has emerged regarding a potential stunning comeback: the original Angoori Bhabhi, Shilpa Shinde. Sources suggest that the channel is in active talks with Shinde to replace Atre, hoping to "revive" the show and introduce fresh energy after a decade on air. This development has generated significant buzz, given Shinde's controversial exit from the series in 2016.

Shilpa Shinde's exit in 2016 became a major controversy that dominated entertainment news. She dramatically quit the role of Angoori Bhabhi, citing allegations of "mental torture" by the producers. The situation escalated when she claimed that the makers were forcing her to sign an exclusive contract, which she opposed. The production house responded with a legal notice, alleging contract breach and unprofessional conduct. This bitter and highly publicised dispute ultimately led to her ban from the Producers Guild and the subsequent recasting of the iconic character.

In August 2020, Saumya Tandon, who had played the sophisticated Anita Bhabhi for five years, announced her decision to leave the successful sitcom. She explained that she wanted to pursue greater growth as an artiste, stating that the stable, established role was no longer exciting. Tandon noted the decision was "impractical" given the pandemic's uncertainty, but she prioritised scope for creative development. Her departure was a major event for the show, as she was one of the four main protagonists. She was eventually replaced by actress Nehha Pendse.

Despite its family-friendly presentation, the central premise of two married men constantly pursuing their neighbours' wives has occasionally faced allegations of promoting implied 'adultery and vulgarity'. Actor Asif Sheikh (Vibhuti Narayan) publicly addressed these criticisms in 2015, staunchly defending the show's content. According to Indian Forum, he specifically stated that he is comfortable watching 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!' with his own daughter, ensuring the comedy maintains "quality and decorum" without being "dirty or cheap."
