Archana Puran Singh recalls husband Parmeet Sethi threatened to ‘divorce’ her when she spoke about buying their bungalow in Madh Island; here’s how they built it together

Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi's Madh Island bungalow has long been a subject of fascination. In Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, the couple opened up about their journey to owning this dream home. Archana revealed how Parmeet humorously threatened to "divorce" her during the process, sharing personal and emotional moments that marked their search and eventual purchase of the beautiful bungalow. Their story is a testament to their shared determination and love.

While Bharti expressed her wish by saying that looking at Archana’s bungalow she also thought of buying one but ended up buying a flat because “To buy such a huge bungalow you need to work hard for a long time.” Archana revealed, “I got a cheap one, so I took it.”

Archana shared, “Parmeet is used to living in an apartment in Mumbai and I have lived in a bungalow in Dehradun. There are big houses in small cities. So I said, look, if you want to buy a bungalow then it is not a three-room bungalow. Unless there are seven big rooms, how will it be a bungalow?”

Archana said, “He said, ‘I will allow you to buy one’, imagine, he would allow me. Then he said, 2 hoga toh divorce ho jayega. I said divorce or whatever, I am getting it. He agreed then. Parmeet said, “Actually, I was very much against her.”

Parmeet said, “I was against it but when I took the entire responsibility of making it, I realised it was beautiful. I used to come back after shooting at night and that drive till home was so peaceful, I thought I could do it every day.”

Archana said that they had taken up the place as a holiday home. She said, “We had taken that place to take our children to a weekend home. We had a flat in Andheri.” Parmeet said, “Jab yeh hai, we will live in this flat? We have the option.” Archana said, “He gave 6 months’ time to see how it works. I took our 6 and 8-year-old sons to the bungalow.

They used to go to Jamnabai School in Juhu. So from Madh to Juhu they used to travel by jetty. One day the principal called me to school complaining that they had lied. They were asked to write ‘how do you come to school from home?’ They wrote by ‘boat’. Even I said that and tried to explain because the Principal wasn’t aware. I had to convince them.”

Pankaj Tripathi ji has taken a house, bungalow etc. and many people live there. We have just taken the third one. We gave five to seven times more for the one than we gave for two.

“There were no means or shops or restaurants around the house. Even if you wanted to get ration, you had to send a vehicle to Versova. Now it has gradually grown. You have got buildings there.”
