Actor Kunal Thakkur who debuted with Vishal Bhardwaj’s film Blue Umrella had joined Nadira Babbar’s theatre group Ekjute on his recommendation. Later he started doing television soaps like Mahabharat on 9x and played Ronit Roy’s son Arjan Mahitavanshi in Bandini and was last seen in TV soap Sarvgun Sampan. Kunal attended the entire shoot of Omkara to learn and interact with Ajay Devgn and Naseruddin Shah.
He also learn the techniques of film making.
Apart from work he loves to play tennis. On asking how he got into tennis he says, "I have been playing tennis since last 20 years. I have started playing since I was 7. I have played at the international level. I have trained under the world’s best coach Pancho Alvarino in Spain and also participated in ITF tournaments in Spain. I was also the winner of Mahrashtra team (boys under 14 & 16 years). I was the captain for my Mahrashtra team. I have won numerous state ranking tournaments. I am starting a tennis academy at Goreagaon Sports Club at Malad and famous tennis Player
Leander Paes is going to inaugurate it on 1st December."
Talking about his association with Vishal Bhardwaj, Kunal says, "He is like a mentor. He told me once never run behind work, run behind the art and work will run after you." Those words were the greatest source of inspiration. I started my acting career with Vishal Bhardwaj’s Blue Umbrella and he is a fantastic person. It’s great to play lawn tennis with him as he really enjoys the game and I have been training him since last seven years."
