Here's everything you need to know about Outer Banks season 4

The Pogues are out on another treasure expedition! Before Outer Banks season 3, the cast announced the show's renewal for a fourth season at their fan event Poguelandia on February 18, 2023.

"Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular," series creators, executive producers, and showrunners Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke told Variety. "The Pogues are on a journey of a lifetime, and we now get to plan additional twists and turns as the ride continues into Season 4 of Outer Banks. Thank you to Netflix, our cast, and the incredible fans who helped make this possible."
Though information about the fourth season is scant, the season 3 finale wonderfully sets up the scenario. Following their travels in El Dorado, an 18-month time jump shows the Pogues getting recognized for their discoveries back home. In the final scene of season 3, they are also conscripted to embark on another expedition centred on Edward Teach, a.k.a. the notorious pirate Blackbeard.

The main cast of Outer Banks season 4 is expected to return, which includes Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Austin North, and Drew Starkey. Daviss revealed that he is excited to see how the Pogues' relationships evolve in Season 4.

"There's no way they're not treasure hunting, so how does that play into all of this?" he said with a grin. "How is his connection with JJ and Kiara currently? Is this different? Is his connection with John B different? They're still friends, but it's been a year. So I'm curious to see what those interpersonal interactions are.


Following the tragic demise of Ward Cameron and John Routledge in the season 3 finale, it is probable that Charles Esten and Charles Halford will not return in season 4.

Starkey believes his character Rafe will respond to his father Ward Cameron's death, particularly after putting a hit out on him in season 3.

"It's interesting because he's already made the conscious decision to go into these uncharted waters of independence this season," the coach remarked.

"For the first two seasons, you saw him relying on his family and father, and this season, he allows himself to break free of that. It could go one of two ways: he could accept it and move on, or he may respond more violently."



The cast was initially scheduled to begin filming in the summer of 2023, however, production was halted due to the writer's and SAG strike.

In November 2023, the actors began filming the new season in Wilmington, North Carolina, a departure from the show's typical site of Charleston, South Carolina. After a few weeks of filming overseas, the ensemble returned to Charleston in late March 2024.

Stokes said in March 2024 that the cast is "getting close" to the "finish line" of filming the fourth season.

Outer Banks season 4 does not yet have an official release date, however, Netflix has stated that the new season will be released in 2024.
