#Rewind2020: Khorkuto to Khirer Putul; hits and misses of Bengali TV

A number of television shows launched in 2020, to spice up the entertainment quotient of the Bengali audience. Some of these worked well on the TRP charts while a few couldn’t live up to the expectation despite setting high hopes. Let’s take a look… (Photo: Facebook)

Trina Saha and Koushik Roy starrer ‘Khorkuto’ is one of the most successful TV shows launched this year. The story of a happy-go-lucky girl named, Gungun, idealistic Soujanya and his big fat happy family kept the audience glued to the TV screen. The fun-element in the story and Gungun-Soujanya’s crazy chemistry seem to have worked in favour of the show. ‘Khorkuto’ has a strong cast which includes- Dulal Lahiri, Sohini Sengupta, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Anushree Das, Rajanya Mitra, Raj Goswami, Debottam Majumdar and others. ‘Khorkuto’ has been scoring well on the TRP charts since its launch. This television serial narrates the journey of a girl named Jamuna. Just like her dad, Jamuna can also play Dhak. She gets married to Sangeet, a rich guy. She fights for her acceptance in the family. ‘Jamuna Dhaki’ features Rubel Das and Sweta Bhattacharya as the lead pair. It started scoring well soon after its launch.

The latest season of 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' started with a bang. Actor Abir Chatterjee is hosting the show. Akriti Kakar, Mika Singh, Srikanta Acharjee, Joy Sarkar are the judges while Iman Chakraborty, Raghab Chatterjee and Monomoy are the mentors. The show has been scoring well since the premiere. Hasiwala and Company, a stand-up comedy show, has a big star cast that includes Rajatava Dutta, Aparajita Ahya, Ankush Hazra as the judges and Jissu U Sengupta, Kharaj Mukherjee and Ambarish Bhattacharya as the co-hosts. After much wait, the newest season of Mirakkel was launched. Paoli Dam, Rudranil Ghosh, Kanchan Mullick and Sohom Chakraborty have joined the show as judges. Mirakkel, which is one of the most popular shows of Bengali TV, has been scoring moderately on the TRP charts. (Photo: Instagram)

'Kadambini', starring Ushasi Ray in the titular role, had set high hopes even before its launch. But the show couldn’t show its wonder on the TRP charts and the makers decided to wrap up the show soon after its launch.

Pandab Goenda by eminent novelist Sasthipada Chattopadhyay is a part of childhood nostalgia for many. The adventurous journey of Bablu, Bilu , Bhombal, Bachhu, Bichhu and their four-legged friend Ponchu took the readers to a new journey every time they chased a mystery. The television show based on ‘Pandab Goenda’ however couldn’t live up to the expectation reports suggest. The very first promo drew criticism for featuring a romantic angle between Bablu and Bachchu. The show is yet to leave a mark on the TRP charts.
