From making acting debut at the age of 17 to enjoying unparalleled popularity: A look at birthday boy Jisshu U Sengupta’s journey on TV

From Tollywood to South Indian film industry via Bollywood, actor Jisshu U Sengupta’s journey as an actor is an inspiration to many. The Tolly heartthrob, whose single glance can still make girls go weak in their knees, rules hearts with elan. While he slowly forayed into other entertainment industries and worked with some of the leading stars of Bollywood and Telugu films including Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut, and superstar Chiranjeevi, Jisshu’s journey on Bengali television is worth a mention. As the actor is celebrating his birthday today (March 15), let’s take a look at his journey on television. (Photo: Facebook)

The debut show

Back in the 90's, when Jisshu made his acting debut with TV show ‘Mahaprabhu’, he was only 17. The show had some of the finest actors of Tollywood. And this tall and handsome young guy with his boyish charm managed to catch the attention of the Bengali audience. While girls went gaga over his chocolate boyish charm, many predicted him to be the new kid on the block. (Photo: Facebook)

Tolly heartthrob

The success of his debut show made him a star overnight. Jisshu, who was already a cricked fanatic by then, stole hearts of millions, with his chocolate boyish charm. Back in the 90's, girls were crazy for Jisshu and interestingly, he still manages to cast a spell with his undeniable charm. (Photo: Facebook)

Unparalleled popularity on TV

Jisshu’s debut movie couldn’t show its wonder at the box office. After several commercially not-so-successful films, Jisshu’s movie career got a new spin with Rituparno Ghose’s creations. Cine lovers rediscovered him in ‘The Last Lear’, ‘Chitrangada’, ‘Sob Choritro E Kalponik’ and later in ‘Ek Je Chilo Raja’, ‘Mahalaya’, ‘Posto’ to name a few. Although Jisshu’s movie career faced some hiccups in the early days, television never ‘disappointed’ him. Small screen helped him get closer to the mass. And the actor enjoys immense popularity among urban and rural audiences as a show host. (Photo: Facebook)

Never lost his touch with TV

Although Jisshu got busy with his movie career, he never really lost touch with the Bengali small screen. Now that he is making his presence felt in Bollywood and South Indian film industry, Jisshu still manages to squeeze out some time for his first love- television. From hosting ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, ‘Super Singer’, ‘Hasi Wala and Company’ to gracing dance reality show for kids ‘Dance Bangla Dance Junior’, Jisshu kept rekindling his old affair with the small screen. Charisma

Unarguably, he has got talent, looks and oozing charm! Jisshu’s witty one-liners, affable nature, passion for music, and ability to connect with the audience through his presentation on-screen made him closer to the viewers. Besides this, Jisshu’s charisma and insanely handsome looks never failed to cast a spell on the Bengali audience. (Photo: facebook)
