Diwali 2019: From Ravi Shaw to Annwesha Hazra, TV celebs pledge to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali

The festival of lights is here. Diwali is nothing without ‘diya’, ‘sweet’ and a never-ending adda with family and friends. But keeping pollution level in mind, many people have decided to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly way. Bengali television actors too pledged to celebrate the festival of light without harming nature. Take a look:

Ravi Shaw:

The actor has undergone a minor eye-surgery. But that isn’t going to affect his festive spirit. Ravi is celebrating the festival with family and friends. But there will be no crackers. “I have arranged a small get-together at my place with family and friends. There will be adda, fun and special food but no firecrackers. It causes only harm. Be it senior citizens, infants or animals, the sound and the pollution caused by the crackers affects everyone. We should think about everyone and celebrate the festival. Rather than wasting money on crackers I would spend it for some constructive work and help an underprivileged kid,” Ravi said. (Photo: Facebook)

Sreyasri Roy:

The actress, who is busy with mythological serial ‘Mangal’ Chandi, is celebrating the festival with her parents and elder sister. She too pledged to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly way. The student of class XII said, “I don’t see no justification of wasting money on crackers or anything that causes health. The sound and pollution level affects everyone especially patients and kids. At home, I have my pet, who is very much afraid of crackers. The moment the crackers start bursting, it goes directly under the bed and starts shivering. You will feel bad if you see my pet during Diwali. Just imagine the situation of stray animals and birds.”

Rezwan Rabbani Sheikh:

The ‘Sanjher Baati’ actor is quite a family person. He is enjoying the festival with his family and friends. “I am looking forward to celebrate the festival with family and friends. From lip-smacking delicacies to adda, there will be every fun-element but no crackers. In fact, we should ask kids not to use anything that causes harm to the environment. Moreover, the kids might meet with an accident while bursting crackers if anything goes wrong. Right after Diwali, it is hard to breathe due to the pollution level. In the past few years, the pollution level has gone up by several degrees. It’s time to think about our future generation,” the actor said. (Photo: Facebook)

Sudipta Chakraborty:

The actress has quite some plans. She will visit her Mamabari (mom's ancestral home), where Kali puja is being arranged. Sudipta is planning to indulge in an adda session with her relatives and cousins. “We organise Kali puja in my mamabari. Every year, we have fun during this time. My Diwali plan has no place for crackers. I have three pets at home and have seen them suffering during Diwali. Moreover, the crackers cause huge pollution,” opines the actress. (Photo: Facebook)

Nabanita Malakar:

Nabanita’s parents and younger sister are in Kolkata. The actress is spending the festival with them. She has plans to take them out for special treat too. “My parents are here. What else do I need this Diwali? I used to enjoy phuljhuri during Diwali when I was a kid. But I have stopped using it too. It is a festival of lights and we shouldn’t turn it to something that causes harm to others. Every neighbourhood has infants, senior citizens and patients, we should think about them.” (Photo: Facebook)

Shamik Chakraborty:

Shamik is going to visit his hometown Krishnagar and spend the festival with his parents after the shoot. “Festivals are incomplete without family. I will meet my parents and celebrate Diwali. I have stopped using crackers after my dad explained to me the negative effects several years back. Since then, we give the money to an NGO that works for the underprivileged kids rather than wasting it on crackers,” said the actor. (Photo: Instagram)

Annwesha Hazra:

The actress, who will soon be seen in the upcoming comedy-drama ‘Chuni Panna’, will be busy with work. She said, “This year I won’t be able to visit home on Diwali. I never use crackers and this year I won’t use it either. In fact, I ask my friends to not use crackers. We should shoulder our bit of responsibility to save the environment. There is no justification for causing harm in the name of celebration.” (Photo: Facebook)
