West Bengal allows international flights after easing travel restrictions

After a dip in COVID cases, the West Bengal government has decided to withdraw its ban on incoming international flights. Withdrawing from the ban on Tuesday, the government has decided to let international travellers in with either a proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative RT PCR test. Such a test should be in the 72 hours window before flight departure.
According to a letter submitted to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry by the state government, "The restrictions on incoming flights to West Bengal have been reviewed and in view of the improved Covid situation, it has been decided that there shall be no restrictions on incoming domestic flights from any location in the country but subject to the condition that the passengers are either fully vaccinated or RT-PCR Test conducted within 72 hours from the time of flight departure."

India had suspended scheduled international flights from March 23, 2020. The country then went on to impose a nation-wide lockdown two-days later. However, bubble arrangements for flights were made three months later with certain countries.
The latest ban on international arrivals came after the spread of the Omicron virus. As of now, things are looking much better in the country.

In the state capital of Kolkata, about 28000 to 340000 passengers are flying in and out of the city, with about 260 flights on a daily basis. These flights contain 70 to 80 percent of their total load. The number was higher before the Omicron restrictions, with 50000 passengers flying in and out daily, back in December, 2021.
