Uttar Pradesh to boost rural tourism, 18 districts earmarked for the project

Uttar Pradesh administration is working towards bringing the rich cultural heritage of its villagers into limelight. When it has the highest number of villages, why not take advantage of the number? The state’s department of tourism is feeling positive about being able to bring tourism to the villages.

For this reason, the state’s tourism department has launched a phase-wise campaign.

Uttar Pradesh has already started with the first phase of this project. A total of 18 districts have been earmarked, where efforts will be made to promote rural tourism.


The main objective of this campaign will be to promote the cultural heritage of the villages. A lot of these villages also have rich historical backgrounds.



Efforts will also be made to encourage better agricultural practices in these villages, knowledge villagers will be taught about cow husbandry, trained in craftsmanship, handloom, handicrafts, food, and also biological and agricultural diversity.


As per the campaign plan, two villages will be selected from each district where rural tourism will be promoted. Very soon, we can expect to see around 26 new and improved villages, all ready to welcome tourists.


What is Agro-Rural Tourism?


It is called agro-rural tourism when rural culture is promoted as tourist attractions. We are living in times when agricultural practices and everything farm-related are seen as potential tourist attractions.


Here, instead of the natural landscape, rural culture takes the centrestage. When we talk about agro-rural tourism, we must include agri-accommodation (rural homestays), agri-food and beverages, primary agri-tourism, direct sales, agri-recreation, agri-sport, agritainment, agri-therapy and cultural tourism.


There’s a lot brewing in the rural areas, and everything sounds just about right.
