A UN committee recommended that the Great Barrier Reef should be added to the in danger list of the World Heritage Sites. This however did not go well with Australia, as the nation has been trying to keep the destination off the in danger list. The country said that it got blindsided by this recommendation, and has said that political interference is to be blamed for this.
On the other hand, Sussan Ley, who is the Minister for the Environment of Australia, has said that there would be no such recommendations by the UN before the month of July. Ley said in a statement, "This decision was flawed. Clearly there were politics behind it."
