This more than 120-year-old railway station will be preserved as a heritage site said a senior government official on Tuesday. Raghav Langer, Jammu’s Divisional Commissioner, said, "Development of new attractions and upgradation and improvement of the existing infrastructure for promotion of tourism is one of the priority sectors of the government.”
The commissioner was visiting the railway station in Kashmir and identified several old landmarks there. Instructions to begin preliminary work have already been given and once the railway station is revamped, it would add to the heritage tourism in J&K.
“Development of new attractions and up-gradation and improvement of the existing infrastructure for promotion of tourism is one of the priority sectors of the government,” Langer further said.
The commissioner has asked officials to go through the old pictures of the railway station. The idea is to make it look just like before. Revenue officers have been asked to conduct demarcation exercises and submit reports.
