Soon, no more motorbikes for tourists in Bali

On your next visit to Bali, it’s quite possible that you may not be able to ride a bike to move around town. There’s a possibility of banning foreign tourists from using motorbikes in the near future due to several cases of misdemeanor. There is no clear information on when this new rule will be enforced, but it will be sooner than later.

As per reports, the government decided to bring in this rule after several cases of tourists driving around without valid driving licenses, without helmets and sometimes even driving vehicles with fake license plates were reported.

As an alternative, the authorities have suggested using cars provided by travel agents. This, however, didn’t sit too well with the local tour operators. The problem of increased traffic congestion cannot be ruled out. It was pointed out that if everyone started using cars to move around the island, there would be too many cars on the road at the same time.



Also, Bali is not only about islands. There are several nooks and crannies around the island that are not possible to access by cars. For such places, two-wheelers are the best options. Another reason why motorbikes are preferred is because you can move around at your own pace and can explore more places easily.


Currently, it’s not clear whether there will be a blanket ban on all motorbikes for foreign tourists or there will be some other ways to implement this rule. One thing is for sure, foreign tourists can expect to face stricter rules when visiting Bali.
