Residents have free access to the park but those from outside of Hawaii must have a reservation for entry and parking. Entry might be based on the availability of parking. So plan ahead for this one. The last time slot for entrance is 4 PM; park closes at 6 PM daily.
The new rules and regulations have been put in place due to the problem of overcrowding. With no cap on visitors’ entry, the park was used to getting a very big number of visitors daily.
