The Niagara River has apparently frozen to solid ice, which prompted a weather enthusiast to point out that it's now technically possible to walk on the river. Although thick snow has hit the waterfall, it’s not possible for the vast quantity of liquid to get completely frozen, due to the constant fast flowing water. In short, as per the Niagara Falls USA tourism website, a total freeze is nearly impossible.
And although the falls do not actually freeze totally, to the eye it might look as though they have frozen entirely.
Despite the sub-zero temperatures, tourists are flocking to Niagara Falls to witness the breathtaking sight, and the videos and photos of the partially frozen waterfall, which is 167 feet tall, are being widely circulated online.
The well-known location is located at the border of New York state and Ontario, Canada, and is roughly 40 km away from Buffalo, which is the worst hit due to the blizzard. However, this did not stop tourists from checking out the waterfall to click photographs, despite the dangerous, bone-chilling cold.
Located between the borders of Canada and the United States, the Niagara Falls is a collective name given to three waterfalls; the largest of the three is Horseshoe Falls, which is also known as Canadian Falls, located within the international border of the two countries. The smaller ones have been named American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, which are within the United States.
While ice forms in and around Niagara Falls every year, if reports are to go by, it rarely freezes completely. As per the records, the only documented instance was in March 1848.
